Neil used to be the 2nd engine on the Sodor & Mainland Railway. He was the engine that helped unload Skarloey at Kirk Ronan Harbor in 1865. When the S&MR faced financial struggles, they sold Neil to the Crovan's Gate Slate Company. Amazingly, he still survives today. Neil is a kind sort of engine, but he is getting a little hard of hearing. He still runs down the old S&MR track every now and then. He is currently the oldest engine still in service. Most people assume its Skarloey and Rheneas or even Duke, but they always forget about Neil. This is because, like most engines, Neil doesn't prefer the spotlight. He mainly does shunting work at Kirk Ronan once the Slate Company bought a bigger engine to haul heavier trains to Crovan's Gate. Neil is still painted green but has the Slate Company name instead of S&MR lettering.
