Frank is one of the first engines to be on the AR. He helped build the line, along with 2 other diesels. Afterwards, he did maintenance work along the line. Frank had never been the most cheerful engine, but he became grumpier when he wasn't included in the book Small Railway Engines like the other 3 engines. It got to the point where Frank crashed into the back of the shed in rebellion. After a stern talking to from Mr. Duncan, the small controller, he adjusted his attitude a bit. He also rescued Rex when he broke down. Unlike the steam engines, the diesels always had numbers, Frank being No. D1.
