Chapter 29

Jake suggested we play the Truth game.

"I've heard of Truth or Dare but what's Truth game? " I asked him.

We all sat down again in the living room as Jake started to explain.

"There's just no Dare and no bottle spinning here. We'll ask you questions and you have to answer honestly." He said.

"And...what's the catch? This sounds too simple." I asked suspiciously.

He laughed. "You're absolutely right." He gestured to Niki and Niki went outside.

"But the thing is, will you be able to keep up with our type of questions?" Heeseug asked.

They had said this even in Never Have I Ever and it wasn't all too bad. I had braced myself for more but it turned out to be more tame than the game we played in class. And who will know even if I lie. 

"Yes, I'm fine." I said confidently.

"Are you sure Lee?" Jay sounded skeptical.

"She already said she is." Sunghoon rolled his eyes. "Stop babying her so much."

Jay and Sunghoon started bickering around and Sunoo laid his head on my shoulder.

"Aah they're so chaotic" He said yawning a bit.

"Look who's saying that. Chaos himself." I said.

He started pouting. I pinched his cheeks and leaned my head against his. I felt someone's eyes on me and I looked up from Sunoo's face. Jungwon. He had his eyes narrowed. I was saved when Niki came back. He was holding something in his hand that I did not recognize.

"Lee, well you're in our game now. Know that you can't lie. And I mean it." Jake said.

Niki sat down in his place and put the thing in between the circle. People gasped and some cheered. I was dumbfounded.

It was a lie detector.

It was the same lie detector I had seen on so many variety shows. The one that was used in the Indonesian Tokopedia interview. I looked at Niki in shock.

"I found this in a shop yesterday." He said.

"Ooh yeah. Let's begin!" Sunoo shouted sitting up straight.

I was now skeptical of the game. What's the possibility of getting caught in an ugly question? But I still did not object, knowing there was nothing I'd done that would get me in a fix. And even then, I could twist my words to give them an answer. I did not even believe that this thing worked. But I still concentrated on keeping my breathing steady throughout taking things easy and not letting my pulse rise. Just in case, Niki decided to become the devil by bringing this thing.

"Okay, first question to Jungwon." Jake orchestrated. Jungwon put his hand in the mold and secured the belt.

"Do you like any idol that you've shot TikTok with?" I asked. My question was purely meant for fun purposes. But I think Jungwon did not like it.

"No." He said without missing a beat. The machine beeped green and he removed it from his hand and passed it to Jay.

"Did you sleep with that new makeup artist?" Sunghoon asked.

Jay thought for a while and answered. "No"

We all waited for a while and Jay screamed and removed his hand. I was in total shock. This thing actually worked. The boys cheered for him.

"That new makeup artist would not leave Niki alone. So Jay wanted to play a game with her."  Jake explained to me.

The machine was then passed to Heeseung.
