I flinched at the sudden loudness. I looked at them wildly. Was it 5th already? How can I be so dumb? I knew my birthday was coming. I knew they were talking about going out on 4th, 5th, and 6th, but I still didn't realize the significance of it. How did I not make the connection? Maybe because I didn't know they knew.
"H-how do you...?" I broke off.
"Of course we know." Jungwon said.
Jay leaned in to whisper in my ear. "You told me, long ago."
I looked at the gentle smile on his face. I did not even remember telling him. It must've been a casual passing talk. And he remembered it? And they all decided to surprise me with this larger-than-life moment? The tears that had been welling up in my eyes started to trickle down. I hugged Jay tightly.
"Oh sweetheart, don't cry-"
"Thank you. Thank you so much. For all of this." I said between the sniffs. "No one has ever done even the smallest part of something like this for me. Most people don't even remember."
Jay rubbed my back slowly. "Keep most people aside. You deserve all of this and much more."
He drew back and removed my glasses to wipe off my tears.
"I can't see you crying."
He put my glasses back on. I took a deep breath and nodded. Sunghoon patted my back.
"If we're done being emotional now, let's cut the cake!" Niki yelled.
"Cake?" I looked at him in confusion.
His eyes glinted with excitement. Heeseung pulled out the wooden dome-like piece from the table to reveal a dark brown cake filled with choco chips on top. At a fleeting glance, the cloche had looked like a decoration piece.
"Jay Hyung made it himself!" Jungwon said gleefully.
"You did?! When?" I asked Jay.
"We were here early if you remember." He grinned.
Jake handed me a knife with a wink. They all started singing Happy Birthday while I cut the cake trying not to die of embarrassment. I offered the first piece to the one sitting the closest.
"Happy birthday, Love." Sunghoon's whisper was like an intimate word from a lover.
"Thank you, Hoonie." I smiled back.
Next up was Jay. He took the cake right out of my hand and brought it close to my mouth.
"How's it?" He asked nervously.
"The best of my favorite." I said.
Again, I didn't remember telling him I liked dark chocolate. The bitter was so well balanced with nuts and Chips. Jay looked relieved at my answer. He moved aside for the rest to approach me.
Heeseung had a mixture of gentleness and naughtiness on his face. How he balanced those two together, I had no idea. I was startled when he licked my finger in the process.
"Hee-"
"I wish I could taste it from your mouth. But this will do for now." He smirked.
I wiped my hand with a tissue before turning to Sunoo. He looked relieved that I did that.
"Thank you, my Lee. I don't want his germs in my mouth." He side-eyed Heeseung, who was laughing his ass off at the former's disgusted expression.
"Happy Birthday!" And just like that, Sunoo was back to his cheerful self.
When Jake put a piece of cake in my mouth, he looked like he was thinking something.
"I have a little something of my own. But after everyone goes to sleep." He murmured.
