I should be giddy with excitement. We were on our way to the airport. My parents were with me in the cab.
But I wasn't.
My happiness was dampened a lot. None of them had picked up. I had tried calling Jay twice. Then Heeseung. Then Jungwon. Sunoo, Niki, sunghoon and Jake. But none of them picked up. I left them texts but none of them responded. For a second I thought if I should go or not. They had landed hours ago but not a single word from them. Then for a moment, panic had set in. The worst thought had come to my mind.
Were they done with me?
But the thought was gone just as quickly. That was impossible. Either I was being silly or they needed an Oscar. I wholeheartedly believed it was the first option.
I tried to make myself happy as I stared out the window. My usual songs were playing in my ears. I was going to the airport for the first time, much less board a flight. That part of me was both excited and nervous. It was an extremely short one. Just 1 and a half hours.
I had no idea what to wear. My mother settled on light blue jeans and a plain oversized white t-shirt with my blue floral hoodie jacket. My hair was brushed out and curled in to form a long bob.
My father had to hold the keys and stand outside the door to call us out because my mother wouldn't stop fawning over how cute I looked. Well, that did boost my confidence a lot.
Around 9:20 AM, we got down at the Rajiv Gandhi Airport. I gawked at how huge the place was. I took my trolley bag and walked alongside them. There was a waiting area for non-passengers beyond which they weren't allowed.
"Okay, ma. Go in after that group. Put your bag through security. And stay calm importantly. Check your boarding pass properly and stay alert for the announcements..."
My father instructed me on everything to be done and listened carefully again. He had told me countless times before and I had even made a note on my phone to ensure I didn't miss anything. Now that I was standing in this area, I was quite nervous about going alone. But I didn't let it show on my face. I gave them a confident nod. They hugged me one last time and gestured towards the gates.
But before I could move, another trolley bag came sliding towards me. An extremely huge one too. I caught it before it crashed into my mother and looked around for the owner.
"Who's bag is this?" My father asked.
"Mine, mine! I'm sorry!" A voice called from behind.
My parents looked at the source. But I stayed there biting my cheek to keep the flood of emotions in me. Anxiety and happiness rivaling for the top positions. I didn't have to turn around to recognize that voice.
Sunoo casually stood beside me. I felt dizzy with this proximity between my parents and him. What was going on in his pretty head? He took the bag out of my hands.
"I'm sorry. My friend was playing around and we lost control of it." He said sheepishly to my parents.
"It's okay." My father said.
"Yeah right. It's okay." I gave him a tight nod. And turned back to my parents.
"I should go now." I told them.
They nodded. And I was about to turn around until another voice stopped me in place.
"Hey dimwit, did you apologize?"
Heeseung strolled forward and stood beside Sunoo. My anxiety levels rose exponentially.
"Yeah, I did." Sunoo said.
