Jay's hold had loosened on my arm. I pried it off and stepped away, turning his attention back right me.
"So. Sweetheart. You made your decision huh?" He jeered.
"I did." I nodded. "I'm not sure how much you heard but I have a year's deadline to figure things out myself."
"A year..." He repeated.
"Uh-huh. I'm positive that I can do it." I said. "You won't have to wait that long either."
"And everyone agrees?" He asked me.
I nodded.
"Wow." He looked amused. "They're such pushovers."
"Excuse you?" I stared at him.
"God, I'm so embarrassed of them." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"What the fuck, Jay?" My voice hardened. "You can't talk about them like that."
"I can't believe they'd let go so easily. Guess their love declarations were all a ruse." He said more to himself than me.
"Shut the fuck up," I said lowly. "You're not in the position to question their feelings for me. They respect me and hence they agreed."
Jay finally looked at me. "I respect you too, sweetheart. I just can't believe my members are so weak-willed."
"Jay, you're crossing the line here." I seethed. "They're your friends, your family!"
"A family that is going to be responsible for taking you away from me." He sighed. "Listen, sweetheart, don't play around now. I'll talk to them. What are families for if we don't rectify their mistakes?"
He brushed his fingers over the frizz in my hair and put it behind my ear, revealing the stitch in my hairline.
"You don't need to hide this anymore. I'll speak to them first then help you pack. We're leaving through the next flight." He said softly.
Did I hear that right? It was like my decision didn't matter at all. I stepped away from him.
"Jay, you're not changing my mind," I said sternly. "I'm leaving tomorrow."
"No, listen, please. You've seen how the world works. You'll go back home and join this whatever internship." He shook his head. "I'm sorry, I can't allow you to go out there in my absence."
"Are you- are you hearing yourself? I don't even know why you're behaving like I'm a toddler. And honestly, I don't have time for this. I need to pack and spend some time with people who actually take me seriously."
I went for the door but Jay blocked it. "No, sweety. Listen to me when I'm saying nicely."
"And you listen to me when I'm still in the mood of convincing you properly. Lest I don't care about your opinion at all." I warned him.
"Don't go there, doll. I don't want us to fight." He warned me back.
"Me neither. But you're not making this easier." I retorted.
"For the last time. You're taking the flight with us tomorrow. Don't argue now." He said angrily.
"I am taking the train with my grandfather tomorrow. And I don't need your permission." I said more calmly. Because I really did not want to fight.
