Note: The term 'Amma' technically means mother. But it is also used as a respectful term for girls and women of all ages. And Nanhi Pari means little angel.

Also the translation of Hindi or Telugu will not be literal translation but a reasonable one. That's it. Thank you for reading.

Narayan Reddy was a burly man with dark brown skin, a square set jaw, and eyes such black that showed you an almost exact reflection of yourself. And in those eyes, a stare that could make a grown man cower without any reason. With a height just a few inches shy of six feet, he stood tall and intimidating.

He rarely smiled outside of his home. The piercing gaze and the strict demeanor only made his employees rush through their work to not get caught slacking off. Owning acres of land in the coastal Andhra Pradesh, all of which was managed by his employees, he and his wife had it all.

His only daughter was happily settled in the metropolitan city. Her life was well and that brought immense peace to him. Because passing an inheritance of happiness and respect in society was a greater joy than passing down generational wealth. And with that thought, came the motto of the Reddy family- Amass wealth but never at the cost of happiness. And always, always respect the paisa that has built you lakhs.

Work was limited to supervising, having already established his agricultural chain. So there was never any need to step foot in the muddy grounds of the farm.

Except when it was for his Nanhi Pari. If he was going to pick the spade or shovel again, be assured it was because his granddaughter had a new fixation with some flower plants.

Leah, his only granddaughter, might already be twenty-one years old but to him, she was still the toddler running away from her food and diving straight into the bushes.

Forever the little fairy who would wear her white netted angel wings, holding a makeshift wand in her hand and wild curly hair stuffed with as many flowers as it could hold.

He always had the final say in anything that happened in the family. And in an attempt to make his Pari an independent and fearless woman, he always intervened to let her have as much freedom as she could at any given age.

It was freedom paired with the right education that always kept her a few steps ahead of her peers. And anytime the fact showed itself as a spectacle, he couldn't feel any more proud. Be it her academic achievements, confidence in herself, or kindness towards others.

But she was growing up too quickly. A year ago, he wouldn't have taken a chance to leave her alone at home for days or let her go to another city without adult supervision.

But as he saw her now, standing tall with her luggage trolley, dressed like those officers on TV and phone at her ear, he knew he had made the right decision. His phone rang and displayed her caller ID. He picked up with a smile.

"Left, left." He said to the receiver.

She turned to the left and saw him waving. A bright smile that was as clear as the day was adorned on her face. She kept the phone in her pocket and started walking towards him.

Her walk. Narayan thought fondly. It was still the same.

Leah had learned his no-nonsense walk over the years, always turning heads and some eyebrows as well. Just like she was now. Many gave her a fleeting glance from top to bottom. Some others lingered. But as soon as they followed her line of sight and caught her grandfather's deadly stare, they flinched and looked away.
