Chapter 34

We were having dinner when my phone started buzzing. My mother gave me a side eye because it was almost 10 PM. I frowned at the phone that was kept on the table. Who would call this late? It abruptly stopped after two to three 3 rings.

"See who it is." My mother told me.

"Let it be. If it's urgent, whoever it is will call again." I said and turned my attention back to the TV.

"You're not studying all the time, are you? Give some breaks in between. Listen to music or see your K-pop." She said.

"I do take breaks sometimes. But the syllabus is just a lot." I felt bad while answering. My attention span towards studies had reduced a bit. But still, the lie flowed out of my mouth freely. In strict houses, you may or may not get disciplined but you become a good liar for sure.

After dinner I went to my room and checked my phone. It was a missed call from Sunoo and lots of messages from him, Jay, Niki, Jungwon, and an unknown number. Among them, was a name that put a smile on my face. I immediately went for it.

I can't believe that you forgot me.
I know exams are near but at least a hi would suffice.

My best friend since school. Sania Mehta. We could go days without talking if we get busy with college or anything. But I know I could call her at midnight and she'd curse at me before listening to whatever I had to say. And she knew I'd do the same.

Suffice? Someone bought a new dictionary.

Anything good?

The reply was almost immediate.

Nah. I wanted some drama.

I contemplated for a whole if I should tell her about the boys. Because there was nothing I didn't share with her.

Me

Bae
I want his name, address, phone number and social media.

Me
Nothing like that. Just telling you. I think I'm already good friends with them.

Bae
Them?

Me
Him. Autocorrect.

I owed the boys to keep this as minimal as possible. Even though Sanu wasn't a K-pop fan, I couldn't bring myself to tell her the actual number.

Bae
You know you need my approval right? I'm not letting you screw yourself over a boy.

Me
I know. But that boy of out of my league. We're friends.

Bae
But you have a crush on him, right?

I wish I could tell you, Bae. But I shook my head and went straight for Jay's chat.

Hey Lee.
Niki just told me that the lie detector he bought was a prank.
But he regrets it a lot after what happened.
So we all know that the whole game was false.
Will you come tomorrow? We aren't going anywhere. But everyone wants you to come over. They are extremely sorry about the game. And I promise there will be no rubbish games again. You can even study here if you want to. You're not obligated to of course.

Then I moved on to others to see what they had to say.

Lee please come tomorrow! We'll play something better this time or watch a movie. I hope Niki told you that the lie detector was fake.
