With the letter, food, and journals Kai was feeling a lot better about heading West. He took Minda who was now the silent one as he read shopkeeper Li's journals and they left the shop.

"Honey, these journals are amazing." Minda suddenly said as they approached the Doctor's clinic.

"Are they?"

"Yes, Shopkeeper Li was being very modest when he said he hoped they would be helpful. There's a lot of great information about the different countries, routes, laws, and a bunch of other stuff. This part here talks about how there is a country made of sand. Just mountains and mountains of sand as far as the eye can see like a sea of sand. Doesn't that sound really interesting?" Minda said.

"A sea of sand? Where do they get their food and water?" Kai asked a bit interested in what Minda was talking about.

"Apparently there are these islands of greenery scattered throughout the sea of sand called oases. There is a pond or sometimes even a small lake full of water where trees and plants grow. It's at these places people establish villages or towns." Minda said.

"It must be difficult to travel between those places." Kai added.

"It says here the temperatures are harsh and if you get lost you can die within days."

"I think it might be safer to avoid traveling through the sea of sand." Kai said troubled by the information.

"It might be dangerous but doesn't it sound interesting? It says here if we have a local guide it's possible to travel through it safely."

"But if we make a mistake it's a death sentence." Kai said clearly uninterested in traveling through a harsh or dangerous environment like the sea of sand Minda was talking about.

"We don't have to travel through it but I would love to at least see it." Minda said.

"It's too dangerous as is. We first need to to gather more information before making any plans to travel to places as dangerous as that sea of sand." Kai said still against the idea.

"Of course, we definitely need more information."

Minda understood Kai's reasoning and reluctance to agree. Even so, he was happy he was at least willing to learn more about the place.

...

Kai brought Minda into the clinic and headed towards the counter where the doctor's apprentice was standing. Without wasting any time he pulled out several papers with Minda's prescriptions written on them.

"Good morning, do you wish to see the doctor?" The apprentice asked.

"No, we only need to have some prescriptions filled." Kai explained. The apprentice took the papers from Kai and looked through each one. As he did his eyes naturally glanced at Minda who was sitting in his wheelchair.

"We need enough to last a couple months." Kai said while stealthily blocking the apprentices view of Minda.

"Yes, of course. I'll need about at least an hour to prepare everything. Do you mind coming back later?" The apprentice said.

"I also need to pick up an order my companion made yesterday." Kai said as he handed another paper to the apprentice.

"This is an order made for General Lei by a soldier named Yanlin." The apprentice said for confirmation.

"That's right. Is it ready?" Kai asked.

"It is. Would you like to take it now or when you return later for your other prescriptions?"

"I'll pick everything up at the same time." Kai said. He then took Minda away and headed towards the general store. As they did Minda couldn't help but wonder if maybe he should see the doctor.
