"We're finally back." Minda said his voice hoarse and drawling from exhaustion.

Kai gently carried Minda in his arms. They hadn't returned to the mountain estate in three decades. Waiting for them was Sayoran. The years had been kind to him and he still boasted a strong large build. Next to him was his wife and three children.

"Welcome home." Sayoran said.

Minda was happy to see him but couldn't help but lament not returning earlier to see Auntie FeiFei and Uncle Ran before their death.

The old couple had lived and worked at the estate while Minda and Kai travelled abroad. Unfortunately, one summer, disease hit the country and neither of them were spared. Thankfully, Sayoran was healthy and strong and survived the ordeal, along with his wife and children. But the much older Feifei and Ran did not. Looking at Sayoran Minda struggled to find the words to express his deep regret and condolences.

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend the funeral." Minda said.

"There is no need to apologize. My parents and I understand and are thankful for everything you've done for our family over the years." Sayoran said with a sincere and gentle smile.

Minda was still uneasy but Kai was determined not to let him linger in his depression. Without waiting he quickly changed the topic and headed towards the estate.

"Has our bedroom been prepared for our arrival?" Kai asked.

"Yes, all the linen as been changed the room has been aired out and cleaned daily." Sayoran's wife answered.

"You must be Sayoran's wife. It's nice to meet you." Minda said as Kai carried him forward.

"Master Chen, forgive my ignorance. This is my wife Chimei, my eldest son Huanxi, second son Huanquin, and my daughter Caiji." Sayoran quickly responded.

"Your family is lovely." Minda said.

"It is thanks to your kindness and the Chen family estate that I am able to provide for my family." Sayoran sincerely said.

"I should be thanking you. Without you and your parents help over the years we wouldn't have an estate to return to." Minda said.

Sayoran wanted to refute but Kai sent him a look that warned him to be quiet. Minda's health was poor and just the short conversation had already drained him of his energy. Sayoran looked at the weakened Minda laying in Kai's arms and understood the meaning behind Kai's look. Not wanting to trouble Minda, Sayoran humbly accepted Minda's praise and motioned for his family to leave.

"Your words are very kind. While my wife and I are not as talented as my mother, please call us if there is anything you need." Sayoran said. Before entering the room Kai looked back at Sayoran with two requests.

"Have the best doctor from town come to the estate by this afternoon and prepare the bath." Kai demanded. Sayoran anticipated the need for a doctor the moment he saw Minda's weak appearance and was quick to leave and make the arrangements.

Minda nodded and closed his eyes. Kai stepped into the estate and headed for their marital bedroom without pause. The main reason they returned to the estate was because Minda's health had begun to fade and traveling was no longer possible. Therefore he needed to make things as comfortable as possible for Minda while he could.

...

Kai looked around the room with satisfaction. Even after thirty years of disuse it didn't look abandoned but rather new and fresh.

"The room looks good." Minda said as he glanced around the brightly lit room.

"They did well." Kai praised as he brought Minda to the large sofa.
