"MinMin, it's time to wake up." Kai quietly whispered.

"Five more minutes." Minda grumbled.

"MinMin, I know it's early but we have a lot to do and very little time to do it in." Kai said as he pulled away the thick blankets and sat up with Minda still curled up in his arms. Minda opened his eyes and looked at the carriage window. The curtains were drawn but Minda could see that it was dark outside.

"It's still dark." Minda said as he tried to escape back under the warm blankets.

"By the time we reach town the sun will be up and the market will be open." Kai said as he pulled Minda out of bed. Feeling grumpy Minda refused to help as Kai changed his nightgown for a warmer outfit.

"I was thinking we could have the pancakes again for breakfast." Kai said.

Minda looked at Kai who was smiling after suggesting they eat the same honey pancakes they ate the day before. Personally, he would have preferred trying something new but he couldn't refuse when he saw Kai's smile.

"Okay. By the way do you know what country those pancakes are from?"

"I don't know, why?"

"Since you like them so much I was thinking maybe we could travel to that country and get someone to teach us how to make them. If I can learn how to make them I can cook them for you whenever you want." Minda explained.

"We could." Kai said. The thought of Minda learning to cook his favourite pancakes warmed his heart.

"Do you think the pancakes can be kept for several days or do they need to be eaten the same day they're made?" Minda asked.

"Last time I tried ordering extras but they tasted strange even just a few hours after being cooked." Kai said with regret.

"That's too bad. I was thinking we could order more to take with us. Hopefully the sweet shop we visit today has biscuits and stuff that taste good and can last a long time."

"I'm sure we'll find something." Kai said.

...

With Minda finally awake and ready to go Kai set him up in his wheelchair. As he did Gen walked over with a list and Yanlin.

"Good morning."

"Morning."

"General Lei mentioned you'll be going to town again. Do you mind picking up a few things from the General shop? Yanlin bought most of it but there are a few items the shopkeepers needed to order for us." Gen said.

Yanlin passed Kai the list of things they needed. It wasn't much and Kai was planning to go to the General shop and doctor's clinic anyway so he was willing to help.

"We can pick this stuff up. Is anyone headed to town with the cart?" Kai asked hoping to catch a ride.

"Daniu took one of the carts out to run an errand and the other is for emergency use only." Gen said.

"Got it."

Kai would have preferred a ride but the town was well lit and the sun had already begun to rise giving them good visibility. With no other options he finished getting ready to leave.

...

The walk over was without incident. Like the day before Kai and Minda entered through the Eastern gate where the pancake stall was. This time Kai was a little more greedy and ordered five servings. He also took the opportunity to ask more about the stall owners origins.

"Can I ask where you learned to make these?"

"These are from my homeland. It is a country far from here. Following the trade routes you will need to travel West until the end of the Silk Road." The stall owner explained.
