Like the doctor predicted Minda's health worsened day-by-day. He could no longer leave the bed and lay sluggishly in Kai's arms. Kai held a book in his other hand as he held Minda close. The book he chose was one of their travel diaries. Minda enjoyed listening to the stories of their adventures and they often read them when they had free time.

"Honey."

"What is it MinMin? Are you thirsty?" Kai asked.

Before Minda could answer him Kai poured some tea into the delicate tiger teacup. Minda smiled when he saw the cup. When they left the estate to travel with General Lei they left the tea set Minda had painted for their wedding at the estate for fear they would break. Now, thirty years later they were finally able to use them again.

"Kai, after I'm gone can you place this cup at my grave?" Minda asked.

"Okay." Kai said. He hated when Minda talked about his death but knew it was unavoidable given Minda's current state.

"Thank you."

...

One night, Kai held Minda in the Southern Tea room as they watched a summer storm over the valley. The bright lightning flashed across the sky brightening up the area. As they watched Minda's pale complexion became more apparent.

"Honey."

"Are you cold? Do you want to go inside?" Kai asked with concern.

"No... I just want to say that life with you has been amazing." Minda said his voice quiet and soft. Kai felt a lump in his throat as he listened to Minda speak. His only response was too gently kiss Minda's forehead. It's usual feverish heat now felt cold to the touch and brought tears to Kai's eyes.

"Honey, do you think we can meet again in the next life?" Minda asked.

"We will." Kai said.

"I hope we meet when we are still young so we can enjoy more time together." Minda said his breath unsteady and weak.

"We will." Kai said tears flowing down his cheeks. Minda closed his eyes and with his last breath he whispered one last thing to Kai.

"I love you."

...

Minda's death was devastating for Kai. Unable to let go he held Minda's lifeless body in his arms for days. The once strong man who carried Minda with ease now sat lifeless in the estate. The only thing he did was make arrangements for Minda's estate and funeral.

According to Minda's last wishes he transferred ownership of the mountain estate to Sayoran and his family under the condition he could live there and use his and Minda's bedroom until his death.

Sayoran naturally had no complaints. In fact he was overwhelmed with gratitude and promised that his family would serve Kai and worship and care for the Chen ancestral grave for generations.

Kai didn't care much he only reminded Sayoran to make sure his red panda teacup was carefully placed by his grave like the one at Minda's. Sayoran had no qualms and promised to properly care for their graves.

It took a few months to finish everything Minda asked him to do. Once done Kai like a puppet with his strings cut collapsed without warning and his second life ended.

...

After the world went dark Kai woke up in an unfamiliar place. A strange beeping sound could be heard and the strong smell of medicine burned Kai's nose.

"This... have I switched bodies again?" Kai wondered. The feeling of waking up in an unfamiliar place wasn't new and he was able to look around in a calm manner.
