Knight Steve Falling In Love With A Librarian

Working for the crown, Steve Rogers has several duties—not only to help the kingdom, but its citizens as well. To fight with honor, dignity, and justice is what he does every day. And yes, some days are more dull than others, though he knows that every single day he's going to make someone else's life better. Especially with a war coming soon...

Today, he's tasked with one other knight to pick up a scroll a librarian in the capital is holding. Alongside his fellow knight, James Barnes—also called Bucky—he visits the library.

Once they step inside, they see walls of bookcases reaching high toward the upper floor. With a skylight above, the sunny weather shines down. Citizens explore the place, ready to research or read whatever they desire.

Both knights walk forward, looking for a man named Y/N. They were given a description of him, and since he was aware that two knights were supposed to arrive today, he should be somewhere nearby. It didn't take long before the knights spotted him. He was standing on a chair, returning some books to the bookcases.

Y/N quickly looked down at the two knights. "Knight Steven Rogers and Knight James Barnes?"

"That we are." Steve greeted, giving a gentle bow, as did his fellow knight.

Meanwhile, Y/N climbed down after finishing with the last few books. "I hope we aren't troubling you."

"You aren't. It's nice to be informed beforehand, though." Y/N said with a gentle smile. "I'll lead you to where the scroll is."

Thus, the two knights followed the librarian through the library and into his back office, locked behind a door. That was where they arrived at what Y/N called the restricted area.

"I make sure to keep any rarer tomes and scrolls here, away from the common eye." Y/N explained as the three walked past trophy cases displaying several books.

It didn't take long before they arrived at a closed-off case. The librarian grabbed his key and opened it. Once unlocked, he gently retrieved the scroll and handed it to Steve.

"There you go. All without a speck of dust on it."

"Thank you for your cooperation." Bucky said.

"We'll be sure to put in a good word with the king." Steve added.

Y/N nodded. "Thank you."

Once Steve received the scroll, he placed it safely inside a small chest he'd been carrying and locked it. The three then walked out of the restricted area and back to the entrance. From there, the two knights turned, ready to say their goodbyes.

"Again, thank you for your time." Bucky said.

Steve, meanwhile, took a closer look at the librarian. Almost all the men he knew who followed the path of knowledge were rather lacking in appearance—if he had to put it nicely. However, he felt that with proper training, Y/N could be a decent knight.

"Sorry for the sudden question." Steve said. "But do you, perhaps, train?"

Y/N was a bit taken aback but didn't mind. "I received a basic course in swordsmanship and make sure not to let it get rusty. I've dealt with unpleasant guests and robbers before."

Steve smiled in admiration. "So my instincts didn't lie. I could tell by your build that you work out a lot. I suggest you keep it up. It never hurts to know how to defend yourself, even with guards around."

The librarian smiled. "Thank you very much. It means a lot coming from you."

Bucky raised an eyebrow, feeling a bit awkward. "Again, thank you for your service, but it's time we get going."
