It wasn't the first time Y/N spotted his boyfriend in an alley, getting into fights with random strangers. As usual, it was either him or Bucky who had to save Steve's butt. This time, he did, kicking the guy who wanted to hurt Steve. However, he was too late—Steve already had a bloody nose. So, he brought him back to his apartment to check on his health.

They were currently in the kitchen, with Steve sitting on a chair while Y/N faced him. The blonde pressed tissues against his nose.

"How many times do we have to scold you?"

"The drunk was bothering women. I had to stop him."

"And look where that got you—bloody nose and probably a black eye." After checking, Y/N went to the sink to get some water. "You're lucky you didn't get a broken nose."

Steve remained quiet, frustrated that this situation kept repeating itself. Y/N returned and handed him the glass.

"I don't want you pulling stunts like this. The only way you're winning is with either me or Bucky at your side, and since you keep seeking fights without us, I'm worried there's something wrong with your brain."

"Are you done?" Steve looked annoyed.

"Depends. Are you done with it?"

Steve groaned, placing the glass on the table. With his now-free hand, he rested his head against it, elbow propped on the table. "Stop treating me like a child."

"Stop acting like one." Y/N shot back.

Steve let out a deep sigh, done with Y/N's snark. "This isn't about the fighting. This is about you thinking you're the man in the relationship."

Y/N scoffed. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You know. You always think I'm weaker than you. You always think I need to be protected."

"It isn't about that. You're angry because you can't join the war."

Steve sighed. "No, it isn't."

"Yes, it is. We're heading to Europe soon, and you're left behind all because you're not qualified enough."

"I can train!"

"It doesn't work like that." Y/N argued. "You have asthma. You're fifty pounds lighter than the average guy. You can't even run a lap without being out of breath."

"I. Can. Train." Steve insisted.

"There's a limit." Y/N said. It really pained him to break Steve's heart, but after many of these discussions, he was growing tired of Steve not accepting reality. "If you want to join the war, be a mechanic or a medic."

"I want to be out on the field. I want to save people."

"And you can't do either of those things. Heck, being a medic is all about saving people."

Steve let out another deep sigh, done with the argument. He put the tissue on the table, stood up, and walked away.

"Where are you going?" Y/N called after him.

"I'm going to prove you wrong."

With that, Steve left the apartment, causing Y/N to sigh. "He better not get into trouble..."

Y/N was prepared for his morning run. Wearing a white T-shirt and some comfy pants, he was ready to go. To his surprise, he heard a knock at the door. When he opened it, he saw his partner, wearing the same outfit. A black eye marked his right eye, but it didn't stop him from smiling.
