After the day's events, Y/N takes some time to reflect on what happened. With the quiet, he's able to think through each case and their deeper issues.
Steve has a problem with proving himself—or anyone else—as a leader.
Clint has a problem with how much more mutants are favored over humans.
Tony seems to be dealing with something at home; every time Clint mocks him as a spoiled rich kid, Tony gets angry—too angry.
Thor doesn't like having his heritage questioned.
And then there's Pietro, who skips class because he finds it boring. Still... is that really the only reason?
Because there's so little information—and the potential for bigger consequences down the line—Y/N decides to help Pietro first. But to do that, he needs to get to know him better and understand what the real issue is.
That's why he invites his teammate to the training room.
While working out, the two do some cardio exercises. Running through the obstacle course, they move across the field with agility. After several minutes, they move to the side to catch their breath.
"Jesus..." Y/N pants. "You'd think I'd get used to this after a while..."
Pietro chuckles, barely winded. "This is nothing." He looks to the side. "Just a bit of jumping... nothing special." The silver-haired man smirks. "Just wait and see."
Before Y/N can ask what he means, Pietro vanishes in a blur.
Suddenly, the obstacle course changes drastically. Balancing beams, hurdles, and tunnels have been replaced with setups clearly not meant to be climbed. Stacked hurdles, randomly placed weights, dummies thrown around like debris.
To make things worse, Pietro doesn't bother telling Y/N about the changes. He just races through the more dangerous obstacle course, unfazed by anything in his path. He even runs laps around the room, disturbing other people's training like it's part of some chaotic bonus level.
"Pietro!" Y/N calls out, irritated.
Eventually, the speedster screeches to a halt right in front of him, still wearing a proud smirk.
"Dude, you can't just mess with the equipment here."
"Relax." Pietro replies coolly. "I know what I'm doing."
"I don't care." Y/N snaps. "Someone could've gotten hurt. Or worse."
Pietro's smirk fades in an instant, replaced by a scowl. "Don't be a fucking pussy. I was just trying to have some fun."
There it is again—Pietro brushing everything off as fun.
"Well, sometimes you need to be serious. Or at least not screw around with safety equipment."
"I said I was just having fun." Pietro says, more forcefully this time. "Life is already too fucking serious. Might as well make it fun."
Y/N raises an eyebrow. "What does that mean?"
Realizing he's said too much, Pietro quickly backs off. "Never mind... Let's just... run."
And with that, the speedster vanishes before Y/N can say another word.
Sensing that Pietro has a troubled past, Y/N isn't sure how to approach the situation. Still... there's one person who might know more about it.
-
Once classes start again, everyone is back listening to another lecture—this time on basic strategies in combat. Of course, everyone is present, except Pietro. Knowing he needs to do something about it, Y/N seeks out the one person who may know what's going on.
