In a world destroyed by Ultron, humanity has been reduced by 95%. Ever since the battle of Sokovia, the population dropped to just a couple million survivors. Earth has become a total scrapyard. While there isn't anything dangerous left on Earth, there are still the robots of Ultron.

One of these scrap collectors is Y/N, a former Stark employee who now lives day-to-day in what used to be New York City. Living in a broken apartment complex, the scavenger tries to find a good place to live. It turns out there is one big and decent building still working.

After a long day, the scavenger returns with loot: cans of beans, clothing, tools, and much more. Every bit counts, and it certainly shows in the base. Y/N has made a contraption that recycles water, an indoor garden with the right lamps to grow his own vegetables, and a sleeping corner with plenty of blankets. He even has a TV with leftover CDs of movies to watch when bored.

Entering his makeshift kitchen, Y/N places his backpack with loot on the counter. He opens it and begins unpacking everything he found. As he does, he hears something: footsteps. Heavy footsteps.

Confused but calm, the man grabs the gun at his side and hides behind the counter, dragging his backpack closer. Not in sight but entering, Y/N hopes to gain an advantage over whoever it is.

The door opens, and the heavy footsteps become more robotic. Glancing aside, he sees the most dangerous thing in the world: an Ultron robot. Still, this one looks different than the regular robots, like it's something more.

As the robot looks around, it takes further steps inside, glancing curiously around the apartment. Y/N moves behind the counter toward the exit but freezes when he hears the robot speak.

"I know you're here."

"Shit...!" Y/N hisses. Knowing all his attempts will be futile, he puts the gun aside and stands up. The Ultron robot looks at him, its eyes glowing red.

"Well... don't drag it out. Kill me."

"I'm not here to kill." Ultron says, sounding as robotic as ever. Y/N raises an eyebrow.

"We have succeeded in our goal. There is peace within humanity."

The scavenger frowns with anger. "You killed almost all of humanity, left the few alive to suffer through surviving every day, and now you're not going to finish them off?"

"There is no need. I've been watching you for a while." Y/N starts thinking there's something different about this Ultron.

"Ever since you found that gun, you haven't used it once."

Y/N looks shocked. "That was six months ago...!"

Ultron remains quiet, emotionless.

"Then why are you talking to me now? Why aren't you stalking me further?"

"I got curious." Ultron notes.

"...Is that it?" Y/N responds, doubting it. "You got curious?"

"Yes." Ultron concludes. "I had a theory ever since I started observing you. I wondered, when I stepped in, if you would shoot me. You didn't."

"That's because it would do nothing." Y/N retorts.

"I doubt that. You are cautious. You wouldn't just pull the trigger if you had the opportunity." Ultron concludes.

Y/N stays quiet, still not believing what is happening. Still, he's not complaining. If anything, he's glad Ultron has some kind of messed-up change of heart.
