Peter had been spending quite a bit of time with Doctor Strange lately, and he found it fascinating. He was usually with Tony Stark, tinkering with gadgets and machines. Now, though, he was eager to see what Stephen Strange and his magic was up to, hoping it might broaden his perspective.
As Doctor Strange walked around his library and collection of magical artifacts, Peter couldn't help but be amazed by everything he saw. A floating rock hovered in the middle of a trophy stand, glowing with a soft cyan light.
"I'm aware this is difficult to comprehend, but you have to accept that magic has no bounds. Everything within this building defies what the regular person calls normal. Now—" Strange suddenly turned around, glaring as Peter reached toward the stone. "No touching!"
Peter yelped and quickly pulled his hand back. "S-Sorry!"
"Rule number one: don't touch anything without my permission!" Strange said sternly. "That stone needs to remain in perfect balance. If it weren't... well, let's just say the world would look a lot less nice."
Peter frowned, confused and a bit concerned, glancing around at all the other magical items. "Then... why is it out in the open with the rest of these artifacts?"
"There is a reason." Strange said. "But I don't want to go on for hours. So please, spare me your curiosity and don't touch anything." He emphasized the last part.
As the tour continued, Peter couldn't stop glancing around in awe while Strange walked ahead of him, explaining everything—the way magic worked, its history, and the culture of his people. Peter's mind raced, trying to take it all in, captivated by this world he'd never imagined.
After a while, the tour ended. Strange stopped at the entrance and looked back at Peter. Just as they were about to begin Spider-Man's training, Wong appeared, asking for help with something urgent. Before Strange left, he turned to Peter with a simple request.
"Please stay here for a couple of minutes."
And with that, the Doctor strode off, leaving Peter alone in the entrance hall.
While waiting, Peter paced around, glancing at the doors and checking his phone. It was only supposed to be a few minutes, but it felt much longer. Boredom started to creep in. His eyes drifted back toward the hallway of artifacts.
He couldn't help but wonder what else was in there. As long as he didn't touch anything, he figured, he'd be fine.
Making up his mind, the brunette slipped back into the hallway. The sight amazed him all over again—an aquarium full of chicken-like fish, a small cloud in a glass box spouting snow that floated upwards, books flying past one another like birds.
With a small, awestruck smile, Peter wandered deeper. Then he froze.
"You there."
Peter yelped and spun around. No one was there. "H-Hello?"
"Who are you?"
"P-Peter." he said hesitantly, walking toward the voice, though he still couldn't see anyone. "And... you are?"
"I'm Y/N."
Peter frowned, glancing around. The voice felt close, but no one was in sight.
"You look lost."
"Yeah... where are you?"
"Down."
Peter looked down and saw a single sheet of paper inside a glass case. It looked ancient but was carefully preserved, strange writing scrawled across it in an unfamiliar, almost fantasy-like script.
