Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 4

"Jay stop!" Nathan yelled, grabbing his arm.

"Leave me alone Nath. I'm going back to the flat." Jay said back.

"Why?" Nathan asked.

Jay looked straight at Nathan and said, "to finish what I started two hours ago."

"NO!" Nathan shouted.

Jay started sprinting to the car. "JAY STOP!!! YOU CAN'T!!!" Nathan yelled.

"TRY ME!" Jay yelled back as he was nearing the car. Nathan tried to run after him, but wasn't fast enough. Jay opened the car door and immediately closed it. Only problem was he didn't have the keys. "...shit" he muttered, he then ran out of the car again.

Nathan tackled him to the ground. "GET OFF ME!!!" Jay screamed at him.

"NO!" Nathan said, keeping a firm hold on him.

Jay was fighting to get Nathan off of him. He then yelled, "NATHAN LET GO!!! LET ME DO THIS!!!"

"NO JAY!!! I CARE ABOUT YOU AND I COULDN'T LIVE WITH MYSELF IF YOU DO THAT! WE ALL CARE ABOUT YOU JAY!" Nathan screamed.

"LET ME GO!!! IF YOU LOVE ME THEN LET ME DO THIS!!!" Jay said. His eyes were welling up with tears.

"I LOVE YOU AND THAT'S WHY I CAN'T LET YOU DO THIS!" Nathan shouted.

Jay stopped fighting completely. He covered his face in his hands as he laid there in the middle of the hospital parking lot, crying. Nathan got up, wrapping an arm around Jay and letting him lean against him. Nathan started rubbing his arm in attempt to calm him down, it wasn't working. "I'm just so worthless..." Jay whispered.

"No you're not, Jay. You may not realize it, but you have so much potential," Nathan whispered.

"This coming from Mr. Perfect." Jay spat.

"Jay, I'm not perfect. I have my insecurities and flaws just like everyone else." Nathan said.

"You have no idea how lucky you are, Nathan. You don't understand. You've gotten so much in life. You'll probably win her over too! And I'm just lost." Jay cried.

"Jay..." Nathan whispered. "How much do you love her?" It was killing Nathan right now, thinking about what he was about to do.

"So much, Nathan. I don't even understand it. " Jay said, crying.

Nathan was holding Jay as a single tear escaped his eye. "Jay, this is going to hurt me, but for your sake, if you love her, please be her one and only..." Nathan looked so heartbroken right now, it was hurting him deeply.

"I can't do that to you," Jay whispered.

"Please Jay, I'm asking you to be with her," Nathan pleaded.

"But Nath you love her. I'm the only reason you aren't kissing her right now." Jay said.

"You're right, I do love her. But you need her so much more than I do. You said it yourself, you've never been truly happy, that it was all fake. Jay, she makes you happy, please, be with her." Nathan looked at the ground when he said that, hiding a few tears.

"It's still her decision." Jay said.

"Jay, even if she does pick me, I'm going to beg her to pick you. I'll find another girl." Nathan was crying hard once he said that last part because that wasn't true.

Jay hugged him. "You're literally the best mate I could ever have." Nathan only shook his head in response. It was killing him that it felt like the only option now.
