Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 35

You walked into Jay's room. "Bird?" You said happily.

"Hi baby! Is everything okay now?" Jay asked. Nathan was waiting out in the hall, making sure everything was fine before walking in.

"Yes. It's all fine," you said, as he pulled you in for a kiss. You broke apart from him. "There's actually someone here to see you," you said, walking back to the door.

Nathan walked in shyly, playing with his snapback. "Hey Nath," Jay said awkwardly.

Nathan smiled broadly and gave Jay a hug. "So how are ya feeling?" Nathan asked him.

"Good," Jay said, grinning like a child. "How are you feeling?" Jay asked him, feeling a little weird asking him that.

"Fine." Nathan said.

"Should I leave you two alone? To rekindle the Jaythan flame?" You said, laughing.

"You don't have to," Nathan smiled.

"Well I'm going to." You said cheekily, "But don't get too crazy! We don't want any baby sloth birds running around here." They both laughed as you went into the hall, heading for the vending machine. You grabbed some skittles and sat down, trying to figure out how to tell the fans.

*Meanwhile with Nathan and Jay*

"So you know when you're getting released?" Nathan asked.

"No mate." Jay said. He thought for a moment and said, "I'm going to be busy with psychiatrist appointments...take care of her when I'm not around?"

"It's no problem Bird." Nathan said.

"So are you sure you're okay with it?" Jay asked, worried.

"Yeah mate. She makes you happy so I'm fine with it." Nathan said easily.

"I know it hurts you. You don't have to pretend." Jay whispered.

"I mean yeah it hurts me now, but I'll be fine." Nathan said.

"I know you won't be," Jay said.

"You two are really sweet together, Jay," he said.

"And you two were perfect together," Jay said, feeling guilty.

Nathan bit his lip, looking as if he was hiding his sadness. "Obviously we weren't that perfect...if she chose you," he said.

"You were perfect and still would be if it wasn't because of me," Jay said, looking away from Nathan.

"Jay stop. Don't make this harder for me," Nathan said.

"I-I'm sorry it's just...it doesn't feel good knowing I took her away from you, it's making me feel guilty." Jay said.

"It's okay, Jay. Just be happy," Nathan said, hugging him. Jay hugged him back and nodded his head. He still didn't feel the greatest about it, but Nathan was all for it for some reason.

"Hey, you better treat her right mate. One wrong move and I can promise you I'll come back and put that ring on her finger." Nathan said, slightly laughing.

"I will. I promise." Jay said, meaning every single word out of his mouth. Nathan smiled at him, masking his sadness. It wasn't as bad as before though, the talk with you really helped.

They both talked for a bit about nothing in particular when you came back into the room, the bag of your skittles barely even touched. You were thinking about how you were going to tell the fans the entire time, you forgot to eat them. "We have a slight problem..." You said.
