Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 43

You were snuggled close to Jay's chest when you woke up, he hadn't let go of you all night. Your legs were entwined and Jay had a smile on his sleeping face. You couldn't help but smile at him. He loved you so much that he would forgive you over something bad you had done. You snuggled closer into him, listening to his heartbeat. He woke up and kissed your nose. "You're so cute when you wake up," he whispered.

"Well you're always adorable." You said with a smile.

He smiled and held you closer. "I don't ever want to leave this moment," he whispered. You nodded, closing your eyes. He played with your hair and you cracked a smile. He kissed your nose, making you giggle. "You wanna do something today?" Jay asked.

"Like what?" You asked.

"Well that depends...do you want to be surprised?" Jay asked, a cheeky smile on his face.

"I like surprises..." You said, smiling at him.

"Okay...then you'll see later," Jay said.

"Okay babe," you said, kissing him on the nose.

"Want me to make us breakfast again?" Jay asked.

"No," you said, "I'll do it."

"Can I help?" Jay asked, biting his lip.

"Nope. It's gonna be special 'cause you're the best and most forgiving person ever," you said.

Jay couldn't help but smile at you. "I love you," he said pecking your lips. You smiled and ran to the kitchen to get breakfast ready.

After Jay got dressed, he went downstairs and saw you cooking. He wrapped his arms around your back. "Looks delicious love," he said.

"Just hope you don't get food poisoned." You laughed.

"Well I don't see any cookies so it looks like we're fine," he said with a cheeky smile.

You pressed your lips against his and wrapped your arms around his neck. He kissed you for longer this time before letting you cook again. He walked back upstairs and waited for you.

Nathan stumbled down the stairs and into the kitchen, hungover. You turned off the stove and went over to him. "Oh my god Nathan...are you okay?" You asked, concerned.

"I'm so sorry," he mumbled, hugging you.

"It's okay Nathan...we were both drunk. It's not entirely your fault." You explained, hugging him back.

"I started it. I almost ruined everything for you," he said.

"No you didn't. Jay forgave me so it's all fine," you said with a smile.

"I just really care about you and I want everything to work out for you, with or without me." He said.

"And it will Nathan, you don't have to worry because so far, everything has turned out great." You said.

He kissed your cheek and smiled, hugging you. "Now do you want an aspirin or something for that hangover?" You asked, pulling away from the hug.

"I think another hug would work just as well," he said, grinning.

You obliged and hugged him, this time for longer. You rested your head against his chest, breathing in his scent. "I'm glad we could remain close after all of this," you mumbled.

"I'm glad we could too," he whispered, resting his chin on your head. Of course he wished that "close" meant kissing for longer than a few seconds, hugging for eternities, and having an amazing wedding. But "close" never meant and never would mean any of that. "Close" would always mean, "being foolishly in love with someone who feels the same for your best mate" to Nathan.
