Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 95

"Love! Please wait! We can talk about this!" Nathan called after you, but you had shut the door on him and slid down to the floor, burying your head in your hands and sobbing. "Love," he whispered softly, from the other side of the door.

"Go away," you mumbled through your tears.

"Love, I can't go away, not when you're so distraught. Please tell me what's wrong," Nathan said.

"I-it's everything," you said, your tears making your mascara run.

"Let me in," Nathan whispered softly, "and I will try to fix you."

"No," you said quickly, as you attempted to rub the mascara off of your cheeks.

"Love, please," Nathan said desperately, "I just want to talk."

"I can't talk with you," you whispered.

"Why not?" He asked.

"It'll hurt me," you mumbled.

"How can I hurt you?" Nathan asked, slightly pushing the door open and walking inside, sitting across from you. You looked at him sadly and buried your face in your hands again. He hugged you, encasing you in his embrace. "What's wrong beautiful?" He asked.

'It's you' you wanted to say, but had kept your mouth and thoughts closed from him. Nathan kissed your forehead and pulled you onto his lap, hugging you and humming "Beneath Your Beautiful" softly. You had slowed down your crying, though him singing to you wasn't working to its full potential this time because you hadn't fully stopped. He picked you up and laid you down on the bed, crawling in next to you and cuddling with you some more, singing softly. "Nathan, please don't do this," you whispered. He was in the middle of singing "Fix You".

"Why not?" He whispered, concerned.

"You've moved on from me, I still have to do the same," you whispered.

Nathan was taken aback. "Of course you've moved on, you have Jay," he whispered.

"I meant completely moved on," you said, a sad tone in your voice.

"Y-you haven't?" He asked. You shook your head no. "But...why?" Nathan asked, totally confused by the situation.

"I still act like we're dating. We kiss and cuddle and you can still turn me on," you said, ears turning red when the last part slipped out of your mouth.

"I-I do?" Nathan asked, completely baffled.

"Yes Nathan, you do. To be honest I was about to rip your clothes off right onstage today," you said boldly.

Nathan's eyes went wide as he blushed furiously. You blushed too. "The point being, I shouldn't be thinking like that. I shouldn't be getting goosebumps and biting my lip and having a desire for you because I'm not yours, and you're not mine," you said.

"I know. I want you to move on so that you can be happy with Jay and not have to worry about me," Nathan said.

"But it's really hard for me to do that because I still love you," you said.

"I still love you too, but I'm slowly moving on. I'm asking you to do this, not just for me or anybody else, but for yourself." Nathan said.

"I'm trying, but it's hard. Every time we touch or look into each other's eyes it's like I'm reminded why I loved you in the first place," you said.

"Then for your own sake...we don't have to do those things anymore," Nathan said sadly.

"Nathan..." You said, hugging him, "you don't have to do this."
