Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 100

The next morning Jay woke up at 4 am and drove to the hospital. He begged and pleaded with the nurses to let him into your room, and they eventually relented. Jay walked into your room and saw that nothing had changed. You were still motionless and practically dead to the world without your heart monitor. He sat by your side and took your hand. "Morning lovely," he whispered.

You didn't respond.

"You look beautiful," Jay said, brushing strands of your hair behind your ear. "I keep expecting you to yell at me for waking you up this early." He laughed. He proceeded telling you anything and everything, doing everything he could to make you wake up, but nothing worked. It had been about two hours and Jay never left your side, still going on and on.

You were still trapped, you heard every word he said, but had no idea how to drag yourself out of the abyss. You were screaming inside your head; you needed him to know that you were in love with him, that you wanted to be with him, that you were alive.

"You know I still love you, right?" Jay continued. "I'll still marry you, even if we have to have the wedding here and you can't say your 'I do'. I won't ever let them pull the plug."

You were going insane, but you couldn't communicate in any way with him. It was impossible.

"I doubt you'll hear any of what I just told you, but I don't care. You're here and just knowing that you are makes me want to scream it all out to the world," Jay said. He got up and opened a window. "I LOVE HER!" He yelled out the window. He sat down next to you again, holding your limp hand once more.

Nathan walked into the room quietly. "Anything new?" He asked. Jay shook his head no. "Can I talk to her?" Nathan asked.

"Sure," Jay said. He stepped out of the room, and Nathan took his place, holding your hand.

"You know he loves you, right?" Nathan said. "I do too. We need you to wake up, love. You're tearing Jay apart. I know they say if you don't come back in the first couple hours you probably won't come back, but I know you, and you don't care what anyone says. You'll kick 'em where it hurts and fight. I know you're fighting right now. I love you so much, beautiful."

You didn't respond, but in your head you were screaming that you were right there; you were alive and trying to break through. Nathan kissed you quickly. Both he, Jay, and the others spent the whole day with you, with no results. You were fighting with everything you had to wake up, yet you couldn't. It seemed like an endless battle that you could never win.

Days and days went by the same way, with Jay talking to you, holding your hand and kissing you, and both of you growing more and more hopeless. The doctors were seriously doubting that you would wake up. They had asked Jay a few times if he wanted to pull the plug, but he wouldn't allow it.

"There's absolutely no way I'm letting her die!" Jay yelled at them.

"Sir, it's been over a week!" The doctor said.

"Shut up! I don't care! She's staying!" Jay would yell, running back into your room and slamming the door. He would climb into your bed and lay down with you. He then would kiss your cheek and hold your hand, just to keep you close with him. Jay was killing himself on the inside.

The fans had found out everything and were sending him gifts and apologies, but he couldn't care less. "I love you, okay?" He would whisper to you over and over.

The boys had cancelled all of their gigs, all preferring to stay and look after you. You were doing everything you could do to wake up, but something always blocked you from doing so, leaving you helpless. Jay was always being kicked out of the hospital for staying too long, and the doctors all felt bad for doing so. They knew what he was doing, yet they had to make him leave because of their strict rules.
