Almost Is Never Enough
Chapter 98
When you finally got home, Nathan grabbed your hand and led you up to his room. "What's going on, Nath?" You asked.
He closed the door and just hugged you tightly. You hugged him back, realizing how much you had needed one right then. You felt angry and hurt tears prick your eyes. Nathan only hugged you tighter as your tears eventually fell down. He hummed softly as you two both just hugged, him rocking you back and forth. He comfortingly rubbed your back as you finally stopped crying. You didn't know what it was, but when someone sang or hummed a song to you when you were upset, it calmed you down. Always.
"Thank you," you mumbled against his chest.
"It's going to be okay," Nathan whispered. He laid you down on the bed, still holding you close to him. "You're so beautiful," he mumbled.
You laughed. "No one else seems to think so. All I am is a dirty whore," you spat the words out like acid in your mouth.
"Stop saying things that aren't true. It won't help anybody," Nathan said.
You sighed. "They could be true. They're true enough in the fans' eyes," you said.
"Well they were never true in mine," Nathan said, looking into your eyes.
You bit your lip. "Nathan," you began.
"Yes, perfect?" He asked.
"Thank you, for believing in me when nobody else would," you said.
Nathan smiled at you. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"I don't know, but I meant what I said. And I'm saying thank you for everything," you said.
Nathan kissed your forehead. "Don't thank me, you deserve it." He said.
"I don't deserve anything," you said.
"Love, don't talk like that. You deserve everything. Believe me," he said.
"This is where we differ. You'll believe in me, but I don't believe you in this one thing," you said.
"And that's what I don't understand," Nathan said, "how could you not love yourself?"
"I just don't," you said.
Nathan took your hand and led you in front of a mirror. "What do you see here that you don't love?" He asked, handing you a whiteboard marker after looking in a drawer for one. "Go ahead, write it," he said.
You wrote "Everything" on the mirror before capping the marker.
Nathan looked at it and took out a red marker. "And this is what I love about you," he said, drawing a heart around the word "everything".
"There's not much to love," you said.
Nathan just hugged you. "That's because you're so damn skinny," he joked lightly, but meaning it.
"I know I am," you said literally.
"So why don't you love yourself?" He whispered, turning you to face him.
"I just don't. It's so hard not to with all my flaws," you said.
"I see no flaws," Nathan said, caressing your cheek.
"Well I see a lot," you said.
Nathan rested his forehead against yours. "You are beautiful. If I have to tell you a million times a day, I will," he said.
"Start counting then because I'll never believe it," you said, looking away from him.
Nathan took the marker and grabbed your arm, writing "BEAUTIFUL" in large letters down your forearm. "If you weren't beautiful, would two people have fallen in love with you?" Nathan asked.
