Almost Is Never Enough
Chapter 126
*Meanwhile with you*
"So let's talk more about your cutting," Dr. Brewer said.
"Okay..." You said hesitantly.
"When did this start?" He asked.
"When I was 17," you said.
"What started it?" He asked.
"I was getting bullied repeatedly for weeks. I needed a way to relieve my pain and then I got addicted to it," you said.
He nodded. "And what happened once you left school?" He asked.
"I just hated myself. How I looked, how I acted." You said.
"Was this caused by the bully, or was there something else that created this problem too?" He asked.
"Well I had a boyfriend...but we broke up and he would text me everyday, saying how worthless I was without him, and everything he ever hated about me," you said.
"Have you had any other relationship like this with anybody else?" He asked.
"No," you said, "only him."
Dr. Brewer nodded, writing down a few notes. "Has he been part of the reason you cut now?" He asked.
"Not really. Now it's just because I feel like a terrible person, because of all I've done to Jay and Nathan," you said.
"You do realize that was none of your fault," Dr. Brewer said.
"Me cheating was my fault." You countered.
"That was the liquor's fault. Not yours," he said.
"There must've been some desire in me for it to happen though," you said.
"Well you see, when a person reaches a certain level of intoxication they may not have control of what they do. They will do things that they won't even remember the next day. So it isn't your fault," Dr. Brewer said.
"But I've kissed Nathan before when I was completely sober." You said.
"Well that on the other hand is something completely different. Tell me about those times you have kissed Nathan," Dr. Brewer said.
"Well once it was because I was angry at Jay for not trusting me," you said.
"And why did he not trust you?" He asked.
"I was dared to give Max a lap dance..." You said, "and I didn't want to seem like a party pooper, so I climbed in his lap. But Jay ran out of the room and we got in this huge fight over me cheating on him. So I got angry and walked back in the room and kissed Nath to get back at Jay."
"You do realize that revenge is never the answer, right?" Dr. Brewer asked.
"I do now," you said.
"Good." Dr. Brewer said. "Did you two make up?"
"Yes," you said.
"Does Jay always forgive you after your mistakes?" He asked.
"Yes. Always." You said.
"And how does that make you feel?" Dr. Brewer asked.
"Like I'm hurting him, but he's trying to hide it," you said.
"He probably doesn't want to hurt you any further. Spare you the pain," he said.
You nodded in response. "You should let him be more open about what he's feeling instead of keeping it away from you. I feel it would benefit your relationship much more," Dr. Brewer said.
