Almost Is Never Enough

Chapter 17

"Jay!" Nathan said, running after him and grabbing his arm.

"Fuck off Nath!" Jay spat at him.

"Jay please," Nathan begged, "look Jay, I know you hate me, but we need to be here for her!"

"I know." Jay said sternly, looking straight at Nathan. "But we can do that separately. I can be here for her, just without you."

Nathan looked at him, crestfallen. "Jay...." Nathan whispered.

Jay turned around and walked away, leaving Nathan standing alone in the hallway, shattered. Siva then walked up to him, along with everyone else. "What happened?" He asked, shaking Nathan's shoulders.

Nathan only responded by lowering his head and sobbing uncontrollably. He was just broken up into millions of pieces by two people he loved dearly. Siva hugged him, trying to comfort him. "Shhh mate," he whispered, patting his back.

Nathan cried into Siva's shoulder, oblivious to everyone staring at them. "I've lost my best friend and the girl I love all in one damn day," he whispered, going through a complete mental breakdown.

"Wait...SHE'S DEAD?!" Siva asked.

"No mate. But I'm pretty damn sure she's choosing Jay. And now, Jay is saying that I never gave a shit about him and was one of the reasons he almost killed himself." Nathan sobbed. Siva rubbed his face with his hands, letting out a few tears.

Everyone else was crying as well. "Oh my god mate..." Max said, "I think he's finally lost it..."

"I don't know mate. He said we should support her separately and not talk to each other." Nathan said, crying.

"He's probably just stressed with everything that's happened, just let him cool down, he'll come to his senses and apologize." Siva said. Nathan nodded his head, though still upset with what had happened.

*Meanwhile with Jay*

Jay angrily punched a wall. A few angry tears left his eyes. His face was pure red and his hand was bleeding now from the hit. "I screw everything up!" He screamed.

Jay lifted his head up to find some nurses walking into the medicine ward. He followed them, careful to make sure they felt like they weren't being watched. He sneaked behind them, not quite sure what he was doing. There were hundreds of kinds of pills in there, many he didn't even know existed. Without question, he took a bottle and exited the room. He grabbed a glass of water, preparing to put them all in his mouth.

"JAY!!!" Nathan screamed, seeing him from the other end of hall.

Jay turned his head around and dropped the pills in his hand. There were about six pills left in the bottle and before Nathan got to him, he ran with the bottle. Nathan and the other boys tackled Jay to the ground.

Siva grabbed the bottle from him and looked at the medicine. It was oxycontin, a drug with many extreme side effects, including death with the amount Jay was about to take. "Jay...." He whispered. Nathan and Max still had him pinned down.

"Why would you do that?" Tom asked.

Jay was crying now, his face red. "Because I thought that since she was probably going to die...I'd go with her."

"She might not die." Nathan whispered, "And I'd go with you because I couldn't stand living without my best friend and the girl I love!" He said, starting to cry.

"She cut the only vein connecting to her heart, Nath!!!" Jay yelled through his sobs.

"She went to the hospital. She'll be fine!" Nathan said, "she has to be fine!"
