Almost Is Never Enough
Chapter 99
Jay opened the door to find you on the hospital bed, hooked up to oxygen. It broke his heart. He ran up to you and kissed your hand. "Oh my god I love you so so much," he whispered.
He stayed like that for awhile, silent, almost expecting you to wake up and say that everything was going to be okay. You had always done it before, but he knew you wouldn't do it this time. He was crying now. "Why won't you wake up?" He whispered. "You always wake up when I need you. I need you so badly right now. Please wake up, please!" Jay pleaded.
It was so heartbreaking to watch this. The others gathered around, crying also. "Wake up goddammit! I'll do anything I swear! Hell, I'll even let Max shag you! I just need you! Please lovely, please," Jay cried.
You didn't respond. The only sign that you were alive was your heart monitor and the small rise and fall of your chest.
"Don't do this to me!" Jay cried, "you're killing me! Please don't leave me! Put me in a coma for god's sake! Lovely, oh my god lovely, please come back, open your eyes. Please come back...please," Jay cried. He held your small hand with both of his, his head down, sobbing uncontrollably.
Tom came up behind him and gently guided him away from you. "No! I'm staying with her!" Jay cried.
"Okay, okay," Tom said. Nathan was crying hard too, but trying to hide his tears.
"Please don't leave me," Jay cried. "I know you like fairytales, but please don't go all Sleeping Beauty on me," Jay said. He leaned over and kissed your lips, like in Snow White. He cried even harder when he realized it didn't work, you didn't wake up.
"Jay," Nareesha said softly, "visiting hours are over soon."
"I don't care! I'm staying here with her!" Jay said, holding your hand again and kissing it.
"Okay, okay. Do you want us to stay with you?" Siva asked.
"I don't care what you do as long as I can be with her," Jay cried.
"We'll leave you alone for a moment," Max said, as everyone left the room.
"Please wake up. Please, I'm begging you. You don't understand how much I need you. You're the reason I'm alive, you're the reason I know what love is. I can't lose my love, I just can't," Jay said, tears streaming down his face. "Love please, you'll never understand. Ever. I am in love with you," he whispered.
He gasped when he saw your eyes flicker open for a moment. "I'm in love with you too," you whispered, before your eyes closed again and you lost consciousness once more. A moment of relief flashed across his face, but quickly disappeared when you slipped away from him again. Jay couldn't stop bawling, he just couldn't stop even if he had tried his hardest, even if he was dying. Although now, he felt as though he was without you, even though you were right in front of him.
"No!" He yelled, hitting a wall. "Don't you dare leave me! I need you! Don't do this to me when you're practically dying!" Jay screamed. "If you love me you'll come back! Permanently!" Jay begged.
You didn't wake up, even through Jay's pleas.
"I love you so much. Please don't leave me...please..." Jay whispered softly, crying on the railing of your bed. He began singing "I'll Be Your Strength" softly, his voice shaky from crying. He couldn't even finish the song, breaking down completely.
"You promised you wouldn't leave me..." He whispered, looking at your practically lifeless body in front of him. "You have to keep your promises."
You stayed still, your heart monitor beeping every second.
