The next morning, again the buzzing from his phone woke Kanrish and he went through another level up since it was available.

What he did not expect, was to see a new skill in the list. Along the next tier he took of {Code Crafting}, he also took one tier of the new {Mod Crafting} and a {Quick Cast}.

After a fast, hurried breakfast Kanrish found himself walking to the adventurers' guild in the central square with Lyya.

After having registered with the guild, when the registration finished, the details were added to his visa crystal. The first mission, sent shivers down Kanrish' spine.

Why a giant beetle plague, always the bugs... He thought as Lyya took the mission paper after reading it aloud and turned it in at the counter.

Outside the city gates, the two of them turned for the western farmlands where the beetles were terrorizing the farmers.

After they were out of the city it was a twenty minute walk to get to the western farms where the wheat fields were heavily damaged and once they got near it, three beetles came flying from the wheat.

A quick switch to his {Scan Area} to keep track of the beetles, Kanrish set a parameter change for the range of the enemy scan to a hundred feet.

With a quick flurry he tore out the {Magic Missile} scroll and cast it, scattering three bolts of magic at each beetle. The impact from the bolts tore the three monsters apart.

Two more came out of the wheat to be struck down by another {Magic Missile} barrage from the cooperated attack from Lyya and Kanrish.

With a quick look down showing his mana bar floating up half empty Kanrish kept track of his surroundings.

Behind him Kanrish noticed a beetle and drew the dagger had had gotten at sign up with the guild.

Lashing it at the beetle he carved open the chitin at the beast's neck and left it tumbling to the ground next to him.

However something was wrong with his mana bar, it depleted rapidly with that one swing of his dagger.

Meanwhile Lyya came back and held a crystal in her hand as she placed a hand on his shoulder.

The lost breath came quickly but his mana remained drained and slowly regenerated.

"Take your time, a mage should not run out of mana mid-battle. Let's sit down a moment." She added while sitting down on the ground next to him.

"I have an idea I want to try, but I don't think the farmers will be happy if I burn their remaining wheat..." Kanrish sighed and pulled out the {Fire Shot} scroll.

"It might burn all the beetles left there to a crisp, but I'm sure it won't be the best solution..." he continued and Lyya nodded, "I might know how we can use it efficiently, if I cast a {thunder clap} spell amidst the beetles in the wheat we can draw them out and you can fry them."

After a bit of explaining where she had to aim her spell Lyya got into position and Kanrish gave the signal.

A loud bang sent ripples through the wheat field and ten beetles came flying from it.

Casting his Fire Shot with all his mana, he sent a wave of fire to the beetles as they left the field and flew above the grass.

Scorched and blackened chitin shells with burnt bug meat inside came crashing to the ground.

"Seems that's all of them..." Kanrish muttered, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Are you sure... they tend to come in larger numbers than this tho-..." As Lyya spoke she was interrupted by a loud roar coming from the north.
