VOL.3 Talks of rewards.

It had been a few hours since Pharana had been woken by Kanrish, had joined them all for breakfast and now they all sat in the living room again, Pharana on a seat of honor while the rest of the family sat scattered throught the room.

Akane still lay on the sofa, as she was still severely weakened, but she was awake, her head resting in Kanrish' lap. Lyya and Misuki sat on a sofa opposite to them and Ayame, Hapii, Emiko, and for once, Alcea, sat on one of the sofas farther back. Only Aelanna sat next to Pharana on the most prominent sofa.

"Well, Kanrish, I thank you for sobering me up, I fear I would have had a worst of hangovers if you had not. But now, let us skip past the pleasantries, I have come here for a rather important discussion. I fear I must ask of the appropriate formalities now seeing it concerns a discussion of rewards for killing the Demonlord Algusdorth and I am acting within my station as Cardinal Queen." Said Pharana, straightening her back and brushing her hair into shape with her bare hands.

"Let us commence." She added and Kanrish nodded.

"First of all, in name of all the inhabitants of our world of Liria, I thank you for ridding our world of one of the most feared and evil entities we have known in time. I have already sent scouts to the city of Shiwah to investigate, however I also informed them of the fact the palace he had hidden under has collapsed upon his defeat. In addition I sent a sealed letter to the Adventurer's guild location here in the Foothold Town of Holbeck to infrom the guild of your unexpected success. They shall see to a fitting adjustment of your adventurer's rank accordingly to the accomplishment." Said Pharana, looking straight at Kanrish, her face inscrutable and her eyes keen and aware of everything around her.

"I have arranged for a reward ceremony to be held in the presence of the noble houses of the Eastern Capital soon. There, you shall be rewarded Dukedom for your immense accomplishment in this matter. I wished to discuss the reward beforehand to ensure I would not trouble a member of my extended family with undesired responsibilities." She added and Kanrish nodded.

"I appreciate that, Your Highness." He spoke, bowing politely before Pharana continued.

"As would normally be the case with a noble being given Dukedom, they receive land to govern, but I can understand this can be troublesome for you. I wish to offer you the according lands, should you wish to accept them, or we can come to an agreement of other rights to accompany your Dukedom." She spoke with regal authority, demanding respect from all in her presence now.

Ayame and Hapii were silent as could be, not even their breathing was to be heard. Emiko and Alcea held each other's hands between the legs of the two, keeping them modestly hidden with bated breath. Misuki and Lyya held their breath the moment Pharana mentioned the gift of lands to govern, or another fitting right to accompany their elevation to a family of Dukedom.

Only Kanrish dared speak, as he was the one the Queen before him discussed the matter directly with.

"I am honored that Her Highness wishes to bestow land upon me, but I must say it would greatly inhibit my family's intentions of travelling the world. I would be most pleased if an alternative can be agreed upon." He spoke, doing his best to remain formal.

An idea came to mind of something that would greatly help him, but he almost did not dare suggest it, awaiting Pharana's suggestion first, instead.

"I have one idea. One that you requested to do recently but was rather impossible due to the fact of regulations within the Cardinal." Pharana spoke and Kanrish nodded. "Please elaborate." He added and the Queen nodded.

"You wished to trade with the Cardinal directly. Because normally we only trade with large merchantile companies we have been able to verify and screen beforehand, that would through normal means not be possible for an Earl, or any other noble without a direct, one-time consent from the current Cardinal King or Queen, whichever happens to rule in the Cardinal requested to trade with. I can grant you the permission, to the entire house Swifteye of the Eastern Cardinal, to trade with the royal family directly and with the Cardinal itself. Trade with the royal family must always be done in official setting, even though we know the other on a personal level. As for the Cardinal, it goes through our Royal Department of Merchants, and not though me directly, however, I can agree to a trade in their place. If so, the trade itself shall still be done through them, only they may not refuse it." Said Pharana calmly, explaining the circumstances under which Kanrish could then sell and buy from both the Queen and Royal Family directly, or the Cardinal itself.
