It was after Kanrish had dropped Daisuke off at Thornshade again and informed Kazumi that they would aid the lumberyard in order to aid them, that his family was on their way to Torrine city for the sawblades.
"Ugh, we got roped into a boring quest-chain..." Kanrish groaned and everyone turned their eyes to him.
"What does that mean?" Misuki asked confused and Kanrish simply smiled.
"A thing of my old world, some games gave you quests, kind of like the Adventurers' Guild here, and sometimes those would be in a chain, like 'quest one' is go there to get that... then once there 'quest two' would be help this and that person... 'quest three' would be pick up this or that for someone else. And finally you got quests to bring back the thing you went for in the first place. That stuff had so-many fetch-quests that it just became annoying as fuck." He explained and everyone laughed.
"Well, that's definitely what we got roped into then. It's one 'fetch-quest' after another it seems." Misuki giggled and Kanrish nodded.
"As long as it doesn't trigger a group event, I don't care, actually." He muttered with a cynical laugh.
Who would've guessed I'd come to hate such common M.M.O. concepts like this? He thought to himself as he looked over Emiko's shoulder as she sat driving the carriage.
"Seriously, why do I need to drive?" She groaned but Alcea, who sat just behind her, replied.
"You still have your duties Sweetie. Don't abandon them for me, I'd feel bad for the rest."
"You could learn a thing or two from your girlfriend it seems, Emiko." Aelanna said wryly as she sat next to the girl navigating.
"Yeah, yeah..." Emiko replied, clearly annoyed by the fact she had her driving duties continue. And of course the fact Alcea had not yet figured out how Kanrish magical map worked and could not navigate because of it.
"I'm doing my best to learn that strange thing, Sweetie, it's just really weird to work with a map like that." Alcea replied, even more to Emiko's chagrin.
At the end of an exhausting day on the road, Emiko dropped onto the laid out cloth for them to sit on, refusing to do her cooking duties, simply because she had to drive.
"Emiko..." Lyya spoke sternly to the girl, but Emiko only averted her head away from her mother.
"That's not going to cut it lady. We allowed Alcea to join us, but we never said your duties would cease existing. We all have to do our part. So if you're going to refuse to do yours... I can easily send you back to the mansion in the Capital if you'd rather not have your duties, without Alcea coming along." Kanrish suddenly threatened, getting the girl's attention.
"No!" "Please don't!" Two voices shouted amidst the clearing.
Several other carriages stood around the place, leaving less room for Kanrish and his family than they had a few days ago before arriving at Thornshade.
The shouts, obviously, came from both Emiko and Alcea. It was obvious that neither of the two lovebirds wanted to be separated over this.
"Then there's only one option... Emiko..." Kanrish spoke harshly, he wasn't going to go easy on her just because her new girlfriend was traveling along and couldn't navigate yet.
"You will cook today... alone. And as soon as we continue tomorrow, you will drive without complaints. One huff of protest and you're on your way back to the city." He continued and the girl nodded meekly.
It was obvious to all of them that for Emiko at the moment, being with Alcea meant more than not having to drive or cook.
And thus, she rose to her feet reluctantly as Kanrish beckoned Ayame over from where the girl sat chopping vegetables for Alcea's stew.
