[The story]

While the days slowly rolled by as they made their way through the many crevasses that made up the massive expanse covered by the Thunder-ridge Canyons, Kanrish sat with Lyya and Ayame who both began helping him with his reading and writing studies.

After their day's travel they would pick up Aelanna's training and then have dinner before resting for the night in the carriage.

Aelanna took her promise to heart and ensured she was not, again, lulled to sleep by the dull thrumming of the rain on the canvas of their carriage that kept them dry during the daily downpour of rain.

After a week, they had already taken out three tribal armies, each with the same surprising ease as the first one.

However, after the second half of their next week in the Canyons, Kanrish noticed a strange phenomenon every time an army of lizardmen attacked them.

{Raid encounter incoming.}

He realized this meant bad news. They had the firepower to take the armies of lizardmen down everytime, but seeing his experience with MMORPGs as both a player and as an admin, he knew the more raids you went on, the higher the difficulty for the next one would be.

And after his second week in the Thunder-ridge Canyons, he already noticed their fights with the lizardmen were becoming longer.

Not because they brought more troops, because the enemies they fought were stronger.

He had no means of finding out if the 'enemy level' had increased, but his fears gradually were confirmed as more and more of them were larger and even winged lizardmen began filling up the ranks of the enemy.

While he felt he had tried to calm Lyya's fears whether or not they would encounter all or none of the tribes, he gradually feared his statement might have triggered an event flag.

This felt far too videogame like for his liking to be coincidental.

{Raid Boss incoming, brace yourselves.}

His notification log during the tenth fight with a tribe was alarming.

"Fuck, they've got a tough one with them, seems to be a Raid Boss!" He shouted while gunning down opponents with a heavy machine gun he had conjured.

His radar displayed nothing of relevant danger, but he felt his heart throbbing in his throat as he was about to throw himself into the fray even more.

"{Flames of the Reaper}!" Akane bellowed while her magic surged around her and Misuki stood covering her sister for the elongated channeling the spell needed.

"Eat this scalefaces!" Akane bellowed and her magic burst forth. A cone blasting out from her, more than a hundred foot long and the air thrummed with magic, but no flames appeared, unlike what Kanrish had expected with her spell.

Nonetheless, the many enemies stood flailing around in a frenzy as their scaled skin charred and blacked.

Howls of death and despair filled the canyons and a massive shadow passed overhead briefly, above the canyons itself.
