"-And then Karamatsu-niisan fell off the roof! His face looked like this." Jyishimatsu told you with great enthusiasm, pulling a dramatic and strange expression.

As always with Jyushimatsu, you found yourself trying to hold back the giggles that threatened to spill out your lips. His company was always pleasant, as he was your best friend after all. He was always cheering you up when you were down, and laughter was always shared between you.

However, Jyishimatsu noticed something. Whenever he was making you laugh, or even smile, you'd raise your hand up to your face. At first he thought nothing of it, but seeing it as a continuous thing you did, he was curious.

"Hey, Y/n-chan." He called, his tone as carefree as always.

You let your hand fallen your lap, looking at him quizzically. "Yeah?"

"Why do you always cover your mouth?"

It was a simple question, but just like that you froze, and already you were fighting the urge to just clamp your mouth shut.

"Huh? Um, no reason..." You answered, prompting Jyushimatsu respond with a catlike suspicious stare.

Desperate for him to believe you (and hopefully drop the topic), you held up your hands dismissively, as if the action itself would stop him from asking anything further. "Really, it's nothing! It's... J-Just a habit!"

"Hmm..." Jyushimatsu continued to stare, humming to himself in thought. You usually find this cute; but at the moment it was only ominous.

Even though you've been friends with him for years, there was still so much unknown about Jyushimatsu. He was constantly surprising you, and because of that you prayed to Akatsuka he didn't a built-in lie detector!

"Okay then!" And just like that, his expression quickly changed, his bright and wide smile returning.

"Really?" You asked in disbelief. "Ah, I mean, yeah!"

'Did he really believe me...? I hope so.'  You thought to yourself, discreetly wiping the beads of sweat by your temple.

Much to your relief, things continued as usual. Jyushimatsu chatted away, but while some might find that tiresome, you liked listening to his crazy nonsensical adventures. It was a wonder he hadn't wrote a book by now. Then again, maybe he had already... Jyushimatsu was a total enigma.

He was telling you more about the time when he was playing baseball, and once he got to the punch line you couldn't stop yourself rom bursting out laughing.

Unknown to you, Jyushimatsu had begun staring at you, unlike his previous disbelieving cat glare, but rather he looked at you with a face full of adoration.

With wide eyes as well as having a rare closed-mouth smile, he watched you laugh to yourself, soon calming down and wiping your eyes with the last of you giggles echoing in the empty household.

Noticing the exceedingly unusual silence, you opened your eyes only to realise that Jyushimatsu was staring at you. He heard you laugh, loudly.

"Um..." You tried to speak, but it was to no avail. Your attempts at forming a proper excuse only resulted in a sentence that came out jumbled, and the anxiety on your features was as clear as day. "Th-That, I..."

Jyushimatsu noticed your extreme discomfort, leaning closer to you. "Y/n-chan, what's wrong?"

A simple question, and yet the answer to it was more than difficult to say. How could you explain? How could you even begin to tell him how you felt about your own smile and laughter?
