Streams of sunlight made their way into the room through gaps of curtains, adding warmth that had already been accumulated underneath thick covers.
By your side was your boyfriend, who looked peaceful as he contiued to sleep. He had always been shy when it came to physical contact, but in his restful state he had unconsciously brought you closer to him in a gentle and safe hold. His hands were curled up into limp fists, reminding you of cat paws.
Such a sweet sight would have filled your heart with joy, as it often did, but your mind couldn't help but wander to meddling and insecure thoughts. You have been with Ichimatsu for a while now, and your love for him felt immeasurable, as did his for you. However you couldn't help bit ponder... Why?
He didn't think too highly to himself, but you were always pushing down thoughts that'd he'd be much better with something else, no matter how many times he pushed himself down. You felt totally average, like you had no qualities to name. Why was he even with someone like you when he deserved so much more...?
You heard a grumble beside you, and turning to your side you saw Ichimatsu sleepily rubbing his eyes. He blinked, eyes squinted to adjust to the light. When his eyes rested on you, his held you closer.
"It's too early. Go back to sleep." He mumbled tiredly.
You couldn't help but giggle at his cute actions, them being a small distraction to your worried thoughts.
"Don't you think it's time to wake up?" You responded teasingly. He grumbled more, rubbing his face in to your neck. You bursted out into laughter at the feeling of his soft hair.
"Th-that tickles, Ichi!" You told him, trying to push his face away. "Hahah, c-come on, st-stop!"
He finally complied, a small smile on his face. To hear your happy laughter first thing in the morning felt like a blessing.
A comfortable silence settled over the two of you, peaceful, like nothing could ever disturb it. That would be true if it wasn't for constant feeling of anxiety twisting up in your gut. Resting your head against Ichimatsu's chest, you listened to his calming heartbeat.
He yawned loudly above you, and looking up you could see his lids closing slowly, then opening. You hummed in amusement. 'What a sleepyhead.'
Hearing the noise, he lifted an arm and ruffled up your messed up hair, smirking faintly. "What is it?"
"You." You answered simply with a smile. His hand fell from your head to your cheek where he pinched it lightly.
"Is that so?"
You nodded, pushing his hand away to instead hold it with your own. He laced his fingers with your instinctively.
"I just noticed, you really are just like a cat. It's another interesting thing about you, not like-" You cut yourself off.
Scrambling to change the subject some way, you laughter became off beat and obviously awkward.
"W-Well, anyway, it's cute! It reminds me of ESP kitty, I haven't seen him in a while..."
When your eyes reluctantly met with Ichimatsu's, a newfound nervousness made itself known. He stared at you seriously, his lips in a straight line.
"What were you going to say?" He questioned.
You shook your head, desperate to exit this specific conversation. "Nothing, really. Honestly."
All it took was a call of your name for tears to well up in your eyes. His stoic look was replaced with one of panic.
"H-Hey, what's wrong?"
Trying to blink the tears away, the effort was only fruitless as they rolled down and hit the sheets. "I... It's just..."
With his free hand he tentatively reached up to wipe your tears, anxiety clear on his face. Seeing him look so worried and to know you were the cause did nothing to remedy your own self loathing. With a sigh you finally confided in him.
"... Sometimes I think that maybe... You'd be better with someone else." You admitted, watching as his expression shifted to one of shock.
"Do you mean... You want to break up?" He mumbled. Just the sound of his saddened voice amplified your guilt.
"No, that's not it! It's more like, I... I wonder why you haven't wanted to break up with me..."
You saw his shoulders relax from their previous tenseness. "Oh... What are you talking about?"
If you had bit your lip anymore, they'd be stained from blood. "You're just such a great person. I always feel happy and comfortable with you. Every moment spent with you is one I cherish."
His pale cheeks held a peachy pink, but he stayed silent and continued to listen.
"Knowing that, I can't help but feel that I don't deserve you. Someone like you deserves someone better than me..." You concluded, tears beggining to gather once more.
After some more silence, Ichimatsu shook his head. "Where did you get the idea that that's what I wanted?"
"Huh?" You weren't sure what kind of response you were expecting, but it certainly wasn't that. "W-Well, isn't it?"
"Dummy. Why would it be? I had the luck of a lifetime meeting you." He told you, his entire face going a pinker tint. "I should be the one thinking that."
You ungracefully sniffed, a mess of emotions. "Really?"
"Yeah, so believe me already." Ichimatsu replied, poking your side. It didn't fail to make you laugh.
You couldn't help but remain unconvinced. "Then... Why?"
"Eh?"
"Why do you love me? I'm just so average..." You explained, your heartbeat noticeably after.
"Th-That's..." He trailed off, averting his eyes to the other side of the room. After a few moment, he grumbled.
You blinked at him. "Did you say something?"
He huffed, then pulled you even closer to him. His mouth was right next your ear, his breath being ticklish.
"...Because you're you. I'm not saying it again." He muttered.
His embarrassed but genuine answer made your heart flutter, but you couldn't control your insecurity. With your voice nothing more than a whisper, you ducked your head down.
"But that's exactly what I hate about myself..."
It didn't go unheard. Ichimatsu hold tightened, but it wasn't painful in the slightest.
"Well it's what I love the most, so deal with it." He said, adjusting his position so his chin rested on your head. You couldn't help but laugh slightly.
After the lull in the conversation, you spoke up again. "Do you really mean it?"
You tried to take a look at his face, but he kept you locked in your comfortable position. He grumbled again.
"... I told you already. Don't look at me."
A smile spread on your lips, your heavy heart finally feeling light. From his tone you could tell he was being truthful. You knew at times these thoughts would continue to fester in your mind, but to know they were but illusions you had made yourself gave you great comfort. Especially when your boyfriend's love for you was confirmed by him himself.
"Thank you, Ichi." You said genuinely. You felt him nod.
"Whatever. I'm tired, so go to sleep." He replied.
You giggled. "But you're the one who's tired!"
He smiled, it mirroring your own.

Hopefully Ichimatsu wasn't out of character. I think he'd be more open and affectionate with someone he's close to, but still a bit shy!
