Ricky POV

"What's up?" I announce when I walk through the door to my mom's room. She looks up from the newborn, smiling, and beckons me over. "Wanna hold him again Rick?" I nod and I see Todd come behind me, scooting a chair up. "Here baby" my mom says softly and she reaches forward to give me the little child that I was still completely infatuated with. "Thanks." I whisper and when I sit back in the chair, the newborn's hand reaches out towards me and I chuckle as he attempts to grab my nose. "So Ricky..." Todd gets my attention and I look over at him. "Your mom... well she can tell you." I turn my curious look towards my mom who's sitting up in bed. "Todd and I wanted to tell you something... and ask you something." I nod for her to continue, momentarily looking down at the baby in my arms before fixing my attention back on her. "How about we start with the asking? We want to know... if you might want to help us pick this little one's name." I perk up and can't stop the grin from spreading on my face. "What? Really? Are you serious?" My mom grins, giving me a hopeful nod. "Only if you want. Todd and I have some names picked out already, but I'd love to hear anything you might like." I almost think that I'm dreaming. "What do you have picked?" I ask and Todd places his hand on my mom's shoulder. "Nick... Carter... Lucas... Roman..." I cut him off. "Wait Lucas? I really like that." I say, looking down at the child and stroking what little hair he has. "Yeah I love that." I confirm and I look up to see my mom's bright expression. "Lucas it is." She says and I rub a hand over my forehead. This was all so much, so unbelievable. I went from nothing, to everything with my mom. "And here's something else we wanted to run by you..." I meet her eyes and I can tell the energy has shifted. Both she and Todd are nervous, and I can feel it starting to affect me. "What?" I ask and I have to remind myself to keep my loose grip on the little infant as anxiety starts to course through me. "Your mom and I, well our firm gave us a bit of a raise... a promotion if you will." Todd starts and my mom nods. "Yeah so obviously that money is great because of our little Lucas, but our physical circumstances have changed as well." I tilt my head and try to stay with them. "Physical?" Todd nods and looks to my mom. "We were transferred, out of Chicago to a larger company." I laugh and shake my head. "Okay so you guys just got a shit ton of money and a big new job? I'm not following on what you need to consult me on." My mom laughs lightly. "We were transferred to West Jordan." I tilt my head and furrow my eyebrows. "West Jordan Utah? As in like, 20 miles away from here?" Todd nods hesitantly and my mom smiles weakly. "What are you thinking baby? Is that too close?" I open my mouth in shock and I'm about to say yes. I'd have to see them regularly, there wouldn't be an excuse not to. But then Nini's words come back to me. "Your family." I just hope I could count on life being like this more often than not with them, that they don't end up screwing me over. And that's when I shake my head. "It's not too close." I mumble and I those simple words trigger the flood gates for my mom, who's now silently sobbing, while keeping her gentle smile on her face. Todd looks relieved and pats my shoulder and I feel like this might be a good thing. "You have no clue what's going on little dude but I'll tell you everything one day." I whisper to the barely-awake Lucas in my arms and as the room starts to collect itself, Jason walks through the door. "Just got your text dad! What's up?" I raise my eyebrows at the newborn. "This should be good."

I watch as Jason's facial holds shock, confusion and then pure anger. "You're moving us? To be closer to this asshole?" He points at me and I squint my eyes. "Oh yeah I'm real thrilled with the dude who walked in on me and my girlfriend having sex. You're right. I want you right next door!" I retaliate and Todd gasps. Jason's face pales and my mom beckons for me to give Lucas back to her as if she's scared of where this is going. I nod, getting up to place him in her arms and she stops me with her hand on the bottom of my shirt. "You two are going to work things out but-" Todd cuts her off with a pointed look towards his son. "BUT you and I are gonna have a long talk Jace." Jason's head lowers and I look towards my mom. "You're really coming here though? You're not gonna change it up on me because he wants to stay?" I point to Jason while staring at my mom and she smiles softly at me. "We're coming here. You're gonna have to help little Lucas with life. Maybe teach him how to skate board? But we're staying." I laugh and look at the little sleeping bundle. "You bet. I'll get him a board for his first Christmas." My mom smiles and pulls on my arm so that she can wrap an arm around me in her easiest form of a hug. We barely notice Todd pushing Jason through the door. I'm too caught up in the life I had always wanted.
