Ricky POV
The next day I wake up to gentle taps against my shoulder and soft lips against my cheek. When I peak my eyes open I'm met with Nini's bright smile, her body wrapped in a robe and her fingers venturing through my hair. "Hey cutie" she whispers and I laugh, practically feeling myself fill up with joy. "How are you?" She asks, the back of her hand grazing my cheek lightly. "I'm good baby" I tell her softly and I reach for her waist. "You have to get up" she giggles and I shake my head, smiling. "Come here first." I say and she looks skeptical but I pull her body into mine and she doesn't have much of a choice. "This is probably gonna be the best part of my day so give me a second." I mumble into her hair and she rubs her face against my chest as if she's getting comfortable. I carefully undo the ties of her robe and slip my hands through so that I can feel her skin. She sighs and we stay like this for a few minutes. "I wish we could stay like this all day." I admit and she laughs. "Just like this or would you want to-" I press my thumb against her lips. "We don't have time before we go so don't you dare, because I'm doing everything I can not to take you right now." I say and her face flushes pink. She looks down just enough and I know she can feel my erection against her body by the way she looks back up at me and meets my eyes. She leans forward to kiss me and I welcome her lips but I pull back after a minutes. "Nope we have to get up." I rasp out and pull her up with me. She smiles shyly and when we're standing I pull her robe closed. "So tempting" I mumble into her ear. She blushes and moves to get her clothes. "Do you mind if I change in the bathroom? It'll be easier to do my makeup." She says and I nod. "Sure, I'll change out here." I tell her, giving her a quick kiss and watching her walk into the other room.
It only takes a minute for me to change into my suit. I feel uncomfortable looking in the mirror, knowing I'm going to my mom's wedding and I fight the urge to stop my mind from running. I pace back and forth, and I realize that the only way to stop my thoughts is to find Nini. Knocking on the bathroom door gently, I peak in to see Nini leaning over the counter doing her makeup. "Hey you okay?" She asks when I come in and I nod, though I'm more occupied with taking in her appearance. She's dressed in a bright red dress and silver heals, the dress clinging to her curves and jutting down her neckline. "Damn, you're... damn" I say and she giggles twirling around. "Do you like it? We didn't even coordinate but we sort of match with your grey suit. You look incredible." She says standing on her tiptoes to peck my lips and run her hands down my jacket. "You're just stunning Nini." I finally get out and she blushes. "Are you sure everything's okay?" She asks again and I smile, raking my eyes up and down her body again. "Just fine babe. I just had to stop thinking." I admit and she turns back to the mirror, to resume her makeup. "I get that, Ricky. I'm glad that I can be your escape." She says quietly and she turns back to me. Reaching for me, she pulls me into a warm hug and I burry my nose into her neck. Her recently- applied vanilla perfume takes over my senses and I'm completely consumed with her. When she pulls back she gives me another one of her bright smiles. "Let me finish up here and we can head?" She asks and I nod, placing my hand on the small of her back. "Sounds good. I'm going to go call my dad." I say and she turns around, concern in her eyes. "Ricky." She says and I shake my head. "I'm fine, I promise." I tell her and she nods reluctantly, letting me head out of the bathroom.
My dad picks up on the second ring and I'm grateful. I have to make sure that he doesn't think I'm betraying him by going today. Even though he knows the plan and he supported me coming to Chicago, I'm four hours away from seeing my mom marry a new man after being married to my dad for seventeen years. It feels like a heartbreaking betrayal. "Dad?" I say into the receiver. "Is everything okay, Ricky?" I swallow the growing lump in my throat. "I'm fine, I just wanted to make sure you're going to be fine." I say and the line is silent. I feel like an idiot for a second, but then my dad begins to talk. "I've come to terms with it son, and it doesn't make it any easier, but I have to let your mom live her life." I nod even though he can't see me. "Rick, this is hard. But your mom will figure out how to make things right." I clear my throat. "Did you know she has a new son?" I manage to get out into the receiver. I hear my dad breathe in. "Not until this morning when she called me." I shake my head. "Wait she called you?" I ask. "Yeah, about an hour ago. I don't exactly know why, but it sounds like she has guilt and she was trying to clear the air." I nod again and suck in a deep breath. "Look, I actually don't want to talk about this right now. I just wanted to make sure you'd be okay if I went." My dad sounds shocked. "You know it's okay son, I supported you going!" He says and I sigh. "I just wanted to make sure you wouldn't be... I don't know. Upset maybe? If you looked at the clock and realized your son is at your ex-wife's wedding? I don't know." I admit and I hear my dad chuckle into the phone. "Thanks for the visual buddy. But I'm going to be okay. And I actually have a date today." He says and I smile. Right at that moment I feel two small arms wrap around my torso, hugging me from behind. My smile widens and I turn slightly to meet Nini's eyes. "That's great dad. I'm really happy for you." I say and he chuckles again. "Distracted huh?" He says and I stumble over my words. "I'm really glad you called Ricky. I love you." He says into the receiver and I sigh. "I love you too dad. I'll see you tomorrow." I say before hanging up. I turn in Nini's arms and she rests her forehead against my chest. "I've got you all day today okay? I promise." She says and I tighten my arms around her. "Let's do this babe."
