AGE 10

"Sophie, are you ready?" Brenda yelled upstairs as she and James waited by the door.

"Coming!" Sophie replied, as she ran down the staircase, wearing her new pink dress.

"You look beautiful, sweetheart." James said, smiling at his daughter.

"Thanks dad." Sophie replied, slipping her shoes on.

The family of three got into their car and drove over to the Jacobs' house. They had a weekly tradition, Sunday's, were either spent having dinner at the Jacobs' or their house. They hopped out of the vehicle and Sophie followed her parents inside. She loved Sundays, because it meant she got to spend the entire day with Nate. Yes, they went to the same school, but were in different classrooms and only saw each other during lunch or recess. So, the two of them always valued Sunday dinners.

"Hey James, how's it going? Brenda, lovely to see you. Sophie! How are you doing, little darling?" Cal asked as he let them inside.

"Good, thank you." Sophie replied.

"Pretty dress you've got there!" Marsha said and Sophie smiled.

"Thank you."

Behind Marsha was Nate, who was standing there patiently, wearing a smirk.

"Hi Nate."

"Hi Sophie. How are you?"

"I'm good. How are you?"

"Bored. Aaron has been bothering me all morning. I've been counting down the hours until you were coming over so I'd actually have fun."

Sophie smiled, "Shall we go play?"

"Of course."

Sophie turned back to tell her parents, but the four adults were chatting amongst themselves and she knew that her parents would know she had gone off with Nate. She followed Nate to the den, where they had a bunch of games set up. They typically liked to play Wii games, specifically Mario Kart, where Sophie would always beat Nate. However, when it came to the Xbox, Nate tended to win the sports games.

"Do you mind if we play a board game instead?" Nate asked, heading over to the storage unit that was built into the wall.

"What one?"

"Monopoly."

Sophie groaned, "Nate we are going to play that for hours. It takes so long."

He stuck his bottom lip out, "Please, you always end up having fun."

"Fine. I'm only doing this for you though."

Nate smiled at her and placed the game on the coffee table and began to set it up. Within 30 minutes, the two of them were fully invested in their game of Monopoly and of course, Nate was winning.

"I don't understand how you always get so many properties."

"Well, you have to actually buy properties."
