Chapter Fourteen

Nate was unsure of where to begin, "Sophie, what I tell you right now can never, ever be spoken of to anyone else."

"I won't tell a soul." Sophie said, smiling.

"I'm serious, Soph. This shit could get a few people in trouble, including you, since I'm telling you."

Her eyes widened, "I swear on my life, I won't say a word."

Nate took a deep breath, "My dad has been cheating on my mom. He's been meeting random strangers for hookups at that hotel off of exit 27 for years."

Sophie's jaw dropped, "Oh my god, that makes so much sense."she said.

She remembered that one night that she bumped into Cal coming home in the early hours of the morning.

"What?"

"The other week when I stayed at your house, I went to get water at like 3 or 4 in the morning and your dad was just getting home."

"Yeah, that's why."

"Oh god, I'm so sorry Nate. Does your mom know? Wait, how do you know?"

Sophie was confused as to how Nate figured all of this out, and why it pertained to the situation with Jules.

"The reason I know is because when I was younger, I was snooping around in my dad's office and I found a locked drawer. A drawer that was full of CD's that were colour coordinated, containing videos of him hooking up with all of these people."

"He videotaped his hookups?"

Nate nodded, "Yeah."

"Ugh, gross. Wait, how many of these have you watched? Do you still watch them?" Sophie asked as Nate began to look guilty.

Nate ignored her questions and took a few deep breaths to calm himself, "Sophie, my dad had sex with Jules."

"What the fuck? He could get charged, Nate, this is fucking serious."

"I told you."

"Does Jules know that it's your dad?"

He shook his head, "I doubt it."

"Why can't you just drop this then?"

"Because if she ever finds out that it's my dad, she would be able to press charges and then my fucking family would be ruined. So, I'm gathering evidence on her for blackmail through the dating app."

"Nate this isn't your problem. It's your dads. You don't have to do this." Sophie said, begging him.

"No, Sophie, I think I do."

"What are you going to do when Jules finds out that you're Tyler on Saturday? You're just going to overwhelm her with all this evidence you have and continuously blackmail her? What are you blackmailing her with?"

"With nude pictures that she sent to the account."

Sophie put her head in her hands, "I just don't get why you have to do this-"

"Sophie, stop arguing back to me, this is already happening."

"I get that you want to protect your family, Nate, but if your dad's being doing this for years, why would you protect him? Why wouldn't you confide in your mom?"

"My mom's weak, she wouldn't be able to handle it."

"If you don't tell your mom, I will."

"No, you won't. Remember, this is fucking serious. I told you not to tell anyone and I fucking meant it, alright? Just keep your damn mouth shut and don't fucking talk to anyone about this." he yelled, getting up and pacing around the room.
