"Your cervix is still closed and not dilated whatsoever." The doctor said to Sophie as she gave her a confused look.

"Wait, are you sure because I've been having pains-"

"Likely just Braxton Hicks."

"The pains were bad enough for me to throw up on myself."

The doctor sighed, "Look, because you are only 30, or sorry, 31 weeks, we will keep you for observation just in case you do go into actual labour, okay?"

Sophie nodded, "Okay, uh, thank you."

"I'll be back to check on you later." The doctor sent a smile at the two teens and left the room.

"It didn't feel like the other contractions." Sophie said to Nate as she laid back in the bed, "You believe me, right?"

"Of course I do." Nate said as he sat on the couch in the room, laying his head back.

"Are you seriously going to fall asleep right now?"

She was so awake. And she needed someone to talk to. And honestly, she wished that Mia could just come right now. Because right now they were kind of okay.

"It's 3 in the morning."

"So, what?"

"Get some rest, Sophie."

"I can't I'm so awake." She groaned.

"Do you want your eye mask for sleeping?"

"You brought it?" She asked, with a small smile.

Nate nodded as he searched through the bag they'd brought incase it was time and handed her the eye mask.

"You're amazing, ahh, thank you." She said, slipping it on as the door slowly opened and Sophie's mom quietly walked into the room.

"Hi honey." Brenda said softly as she glanced at Nate, "Hi Nate."

And she walked over to Sophie and began to look at all of the monitors and machines that she was hooked up to.

"Apparently I'm not in labour and my cervix is still closed."

"That's what I told you."

Sophie had called her mom on the way to the hospital and Brenda literally said the exact same thing the doctor she saw said.

"I just really thought it was time. Nate did too."

"Your body likes to play tricks on you." Brenda sighed, "When I was pregnant with you, I had Braxton Hicks so badly around, hm, I guess 32 weeks, that I thought I was in labour. Then when I got to the hospital I had no pain or nothing and they still examined me and I was not in labour. And that kept happening every now and then until I was actual in real labour. Do you remember the signs of active and real labour?"

"Contractions that get closer together over time and last at least 30 seconds to a minute, um, the mucus plug thing which I don't really understand. What else? Oh, contractions that continue regardless of movement or rest, I forgot about that one, which is probably why they stopped as soon as you started walking. Nausea or vomiting too, due to intense contractions, which threw me off tonight because well I-" Nate rambled on as Brenda smiled slightly, cutting him off.
