EDIT: If you're upset that she didn't miscarry the baby, do not comment that, nor get upset with me. Again, miscarriage is not a joke. Please keep harsh comments to yourself.

Sophie sobbed as Nate sped the two of them to the hospital. She dialed her moms number, hoping she would pick up.

"Hello?"

"Mom." She sobbed.

"Oh honey, what's wrong?"

"I'm bleeding. I think I might be having a miscarriage."

"How much blood, Sophie?"

"I don't know. There was just a gush of it."

"Have there been any more gushes?"

"No, I don't think so." She sniffled.

"Are you on your way to the hospital?"

"Yes."

"I'll meet you in the emergency department." Sophie hung up and took a deep breath.

Bleeding doesn't always lead to miscarriage, does it? She didn't know much about pregnancy but anytime she heard of someone bleeding, she would associate it with losing the baby.

They pulled up to the hospital and quickly rushed into the emergency department.

"What's going on?" the nurse asked, taking her and Nate into a room.

"Um, I'm 15 weeks pregnant and I just had this gush of blood or something come out. I'm worried that I might be miscarrying the baby."

"We're going to take your vitals and then the doctor will come in and do an exam. Is that alright?"

"Yeah." she said, biting her lip as her mom walked in, rushing to her side.

The nurse took her vitals and then fled the room.

"Let me see." her mom said and Sophie shook her head.

"I don't want you to look."

"Sophie, I'm a doctor. Just let me take a peek." her mom said, putting on gloves.

Sophie let her mom look quickly as Nate gave the two of them privacy.

"I don't see anything wrong, just some dried blood."

"Doesn't bleeding mean miscarriage?"

"Not always. We'll see what the OB/Gyn says when she gets here." Brenda removed her gloves and sanitized her hands, "So, Nate, you're quiet today."

"I'm worried." he said as the OB/Gyn entered.

You should be worried, you caused this.

"Hi, Sophie, I'm Doctor Harrow. I've heard you've experienced some bleeding?"

"Yeah, it was just one gush of blood."

"Do you mind if I do a pelvic exam to check?"

"No." Sophie said.

"If you two stay in the room, you're going to have to go up by her head." Doctor Harrow said as Nate and Brenda stood at either side of her head.

After a very uncomfortable few minutes, Doctor Harrow cleared her throat, "I really don't see anything wrong. Your cervix is fine, a bit tender, but that's normal. The blood you passed seems to be old, it could be left over from your last menstrual cycle or possibly a clot from the placenta. We will order an ultrasound to be sure."

Sophie sighed as her eyes filled with tears and the Doctor left the room, "What if they do an ultrasound and there's no heartbeat?"

Nate squeezed her hand, "That won't happen. It'll be okay."
