Chapter Ninety-Three

"You know what I realized earlier?" Nate asked as they pulled into the parking lot Friday night for Lexi's play.

"What?"

"My dad hasn't reached out at all. I doubt he knows that Mia was even born."

"Did you think he would reach out?"

"Not really."

"Did you want him to meet her?"

"Do you?"

"I asked you first." She replied as they got out of his truck.

"No, I don't know, fuck. I was just thinking about it today that's all."

"Honestly, I had forgotten too."

"Yeah, the grandmas are enough for us."

"They really are." Sophie said as he put his hand in hers, walking into the school.

"Over here bitch!" Maddy yelled from the middle of the auditorium.

Sophie laughed as she dragged Nate to sit with Maddy, Kat and BB, passing Cassie along the way who stared into Nate's fucking soul.

So she did show up. Interesting.

"I'm so fucking excited for this."

"Me too." Sophie replied.

"Does anyone have any idea what this is about?" Kat asked as they shook their heads.

Sophie knew a little bit, but she wasn't going to spoil it.

"Not a clue."

"I'm surprised she didn't tell you." Maddy said.

"She's been pretty secretive with this." Sophie replied.

Sophie wasn't going to lie, she was a bit nervous about what Lexi actually put in the play. Like, would it out them? Or make them look bad? Make them look good? She had no idea.

Ten minutes later, her questions were starting to be answered.

It started off with a rendition of Rue's dads funeral from a few years back. And how Lexi handled the beginning of Rue's drug problem, except, those weren't their names in Lexi's play.

"It was the summer before I started ninth grade, back when we thought we'd all be friends forever. There were six of us. There was me, Grace." Lexi spoke as she introduced her character.

"My sister, Hallie." And a Cassie lookalike was on stage, "Her best friend, Marta." Then a Maddy lookalike, "Marta's best friend, Luna." A Kat lookalike, "My childhood friend, Jade." A Rue lookalike, and finally, "And my best friend, Claire." And Sophie's lookalike appeared.

Everyone was slowly figuring it out.

"And this is life. Not everyone's life, but our life!" And everyone clapped.

"Wait, is this fucking play about us?" Maddy asked.

Yes girl, it is. So, buckle the fuck up.

Kat gave her a look, "I'm beginning to think so."

"Is it?"

"I guess so." Sophie muttered, trying to focus on the play.

And the play continued on. The next scene was in Cassie and Lexi's bedroom.

"Okay, this might kinda be a weird and embarrassing thing to admit but I think the most defining moment of my adolescence was when my sister went through puberty."
