ENJOY THE CHAOS

"We're going to the Jacobs' for brunch." Brenda said as Sophie walked downstairs the next morning.

"Uh, Nate's here."

"Oh, well, of course he is." She smiled, "Tell him we're going to his house."

"But why?"

"Because I think Marsha is losing her mind."

"Right, okay. I will go get him." Sophie said, turning on her heels and walking back upstairs to her room, seeing Nate sitting on her bed, half dressed, "Apparently we're going to your house for brunch."

"Why?"

"My mom thinks your mom is losing her mind."

"Oh god." He groaned as he grabbed his shirt and threw it on, following Sophie downstairs.

"I'll meet you two over there." Brenda said as she walked out the front door.

Nate and Sophie were silent during the drive over. He was still extremely pissed off with everything that Sophie told him last night.

And he had a few ideas on what to do about the situation they were in.

Were any of them good? No.

But he's Nate Jacobs, so really, what do we expect?

"Oh good, you guys are here! Aaron keeps trying to leave the room because he thinks I'm having some sort of breakdown, I'm not! Just trying to be honest about everything! Let's air all this shit out, why don't we?" Marsha said as she took a sip of wine and lit a cigarette.

"Marsha, it's 10 in the morning. Maybe the drinking can wait until later?" Brenda asked, grimacing.

"Just sit down and shut up."

Everyone looked at each other before they sat down and Marsha sighed.

"My first piece of advice? Whatever you do don't marry anyone you meet in high school." Marsha said, taking another sip of wine, while looking straight ahead at Sophie.

Nate glanced over at her, but was unable to read the expression she wore on her face.

But I'd marry her.

In a heartbeat.

"I mean it. I used to be fun. And I know you don't believe me but I was fucking hot. So was Brenda."

"No, I believe you." Nate replied.

"Yeah, well, I could've had anything I wanted, right Brenda? That's how we both were. Then I just fell in love with your dad and she fell in love with James."

Sophie and Brenda didn't know why they were here. If they were just going to continue to keep talking about Cal and their whole family dynamic. But Sophie assumed that because they kind of were one big family at this point, that Marsha had some necessary comments to make towards them.

"Well, I'm very happy he's gone." Nate admitted as Marsha nodded.

"Yep. Do me a favour, just don't take your anger out on me."

"Why would I be angry at you?"

"Cause you're an angry guy."

Yes, yes, he is.

"No, I was angry at dad. That's very different than being angry."

"Whatever you say."

"And I feel like when I was angry, I had a pretty good reason to be angry."
