Chapter Twenty-Seven

The doctor smiled, "Congratulations, you're having a girl!"

Sophie's eyes filled with tears as she looked over at Nate, whose jaw was dropped. Thank fucking god, they both thought, even though Sophie still had kind of wanted a boy. She was overjoyed to be having a girl.

"It's a girl!" Sophie exclaimed, tears escaping her eyes as Nate smiled and kissed her.

He squeezed her hand, "I'm relieved."

Thank god it wasn't a boy, or else this scenario would have went very, very differently.

Sophie wiped away her tears as Nate's eyes filled with tears. He didn't fucking understand why he was even getting emotional, but you know, it's his baby so he probably should be somewhat emotionally invested, right? He blinked rapidly to get the tears to disappear as the doctor printed pictures of their baby girl. Their fucking baby girl. He still couldn't believe it. Sophie and him were having a baby girl. It seemed like everything was falling into place. He knew in his heart that he would do anything, absolutely anything to protect the two of them.

"Thank you again." Sophie said to the doctor as he left the room.

Nate was so zoned out that he didn't even notice that the doctor had left. The second Sophie got up, Nate pulled her into a hug and spun her around, making her laugh.

"Holy shit." Nate said, putting her down, "I can't believe this."

"I know. Now I'm extra excited." Sophie exclaimed, placing a hand on her belly after feeling the baby kick.

"My two girls." Nate said as he placed his hand over Sophie's and she smiled up at him.

The two of them walked out of the hospital and headed back to Sophie's house, where Brenda, Marsha and Cal were waiting.

"So? Is it a boy or a girl?" Brenda asked as soon as they walked in the house and Sophie laughed.

"Jeez mom, let us come in first." Sophie said, walking over to where they were sitting as Nate followed behind.

"So, boy? Girl?" Marsha asked as Sophie sat down.

She looked up at Nate, who nodded and gave her a smile, "It's a girl!"

Brenda and Marsha jumped out of their seats excitedly as Cal smiled a bit. Just a bit.

"Oh, Sophie! This is so exciting!" Brenda said, giving her daughter a hug.

"I can't wait to throw a baby shower and spoil her with gifts!" Marsha said, also giving Sophie a hug before giving Nate a hug as well.

"Well, congratulations you two. A little girl. Wow." Cal said, giving Sophie a quick hug.

Cal and Nate stared at each other for a few seconds before his dad patted him on the back.

"Have you thought of any names yet?" Brenda asked, making Nate laugh.

"Mom, we just found out."

"I know, but have you?"

Sophie shook her head, "No."

"You should get on that. It'll come sooner than you think!" Brenda said, giving Sophie a big smile, "I'm so excited for you."

Sophie turned back to ask Nate a question, but him and Cal had disappeared. Oh, god. She turned back around and shook it off, continuing to talk with her mom and Marsha.

"Nate, a word?" Cal asked, walking into the kitchen.

Nate followed him and stood across from him, "Yeah?"
