Chapter Sixty-Three

Shorter chapter but interesting nonetheless 😋

Sophie's words stung Nate. It was like a slap on the face. Not seeing Mia? Not being involved in Mia's life? What was she talking about? And then he realized.

He had told her that he was having doubts about him being involved in her life. And she used his words to her advantage. But he didn't think that anymore. He wanted to be a part of Mia's life. Badly.

His eyes were full of tears as he nodded at Sophie's words, walking away from her. He knew he had to step up his game. Immediately.

Following that day, Nate started leaving Sophie small gifts. Sentimental things that he hoped would tug on her heart strings, things he knew she loved but would never admit to it. He started with flowers, then small notes, chocolates, small things for Mia and about 10 other things. And honestly, she didn't mind.

The other issue was that Cassie, started to dress like Sophie. Like whatever Sophie would wear Monday, Cassie would be dressed the same on Tuesday. It was fucking weird. Sophie and Maddy noticed right away and Nate didn't notice until Cassie showed up at school in the same fucking dress that Sophie wore on New Year's. At school. What the actual fuck? Nate shook his head and rolled his eyes as he walked past her, trying to burn the image from his brain.

Their parents knew something was wrong over the last few weeks, yet neither Sophie, or Nate, would talk about it. And obviously they needed to, but they ultimately avoided it every time.

And Elliot and Sophie had grown to be close friends. They'd actually hung out outside of school a few times, and it was fun and carefree. She liked having another friend that didn't judge her or give two fucks about her whole messed up situation. But she didn't realize that Elliot was literally falling for her.

"So, Jules doesn't like you? Or she does like you?"

"I don't know. I thought she did, but then she told me she didn't. She thinks I'm not telling her something."

"Well, are you hiding anything from her?" Sophie asked, raising her eyebrow at him.

"I mean, no, but like-"

"Oh my god, what are you hiding?"

Elliot groaned, "I think you're going to be disappointed in me."

"Try me."

"Rue and I are kind of doing drugs together, and we have been since we met on New Year's."

"Oh, fucking Rue." Sophie sighed, "Are you on drugs right now?"

"No, I don't take drugs before school. Plus, I wouldn't do drugs before coming to your house, that's disrespectful."

"I appreciate that."

"Have you ever, uh, done any?"

"I've smoked a ton of weed, well, I used to. And I did a line of coke once last New Year's."

"You? Really?" Elliot laughed.

"Did you think I was an alcohol only kind of girl?"

"Uh, yeah, kind of."

"Nope, I'm definitely far from it."

"That's surprising."

"Why?"

"Because you're so reserved."

"I am not!"

"You're either very quiet or very outgoing. There's no in between."
