Chapter Sixty-Seven

"Do you still want to do your birthday party at my place? I know things are a bit weird now because of, um, the shit that went down." Lexi said, hesitantly.

"Yeah, it's fine." Sophie mumbled as she continued to read over Lexi's play, "This is really good, Lex. What's it based on?"

"Um, I don't know, just how complicated life is for certain people. But I'm glad you like it."

Lexi was shocked she hadn't put two and two together since the whole thing was about everyone they knew.

"I can't wait to watch it. When are you holding auditions?"

"They start today. Why? Did you want to try out or-"

"Oh, no, it's okay. I totally would if I wasn't pregnant, but I'd rather just watch the entire thing come to life."

"Oh, okay."

Lexi had hoped she would want to audition, but then if she had the baby in the middle of practices, it may throw the entire thing off, so in a sense, she was happy.

"Are we going to be having a joined birthday party for Maddy and I?"

"As long as Maddy wants to."

"Well, I was just curious since we've done it every other year."

"Again, up to Maddy."

"I'll ask her." Sophie said as she watched Maddy walk into the cafeteria and come sit with them.

"How's your day? Both of you?"

"Good." Lexi responded, typing away.

"Mine's good, how's yours?"

"Alright, I guess."

"We we're just talking about our birthdays."

"Oh, right, that's pretty soon. What are we doing?"

"Lex asked if I wanted to still have it at their house because, you know-"

"Oh, fuck, right." Maddy bit her lip, "Do you?"

"It's a tradition, so, yeah. Do you?"

"Sure, fuck it. Why not?" Maddy said with a small smile, "By the way, what are your plans for Valentine's Day?"

"I totally forgot that that was coming up."

"That's such a lie."

"It's not."

"Are you going to like, do something with Nate?"

"Probably not."

"But what if he asks?"

"I don't know. I'll likely turn him down."

Maddy's eyes flickered to something behind her then she looked back at Sophie, "I heard you kissed Elliot."

"You kissed Elliot?" Lexi turned to look at her.

Sophie shrugged, "Technically, he kissed me."

"Same thing!" Lexi exclaimed as she started typing once again.

"Yeah, Nate witnessed the entire thing."

"I'm shocked that Elliot is still alive."

"He was definitely angry, but he kinda let him off easily, which is so fucking weird."

Maddy raised her eyebrows, "Maybe he is changing."

"Maybe."

Now, Cassie was still spiralling. She still thought that Nate had feelings for her, and therefore, wanted her. And so she showed up at the Jacobs' house later in the week.
