Chapter Ninety-Nine

A week later it was the anniversary of Sophie's fathers death, and therefore, they brought Mia to his grave and chatted freely with him. It was the first year that Sophie wasn't incredibly sad about her dad. Obviously she was somewhat sad, but that hole in her heart had been filled with Mia. And she thanked her dad for sending her Mia as a sign because last year, she had asked for one if Nate was the one. Like, he couldn't have made it any more obvious? He gave her a whole ass person.

The last month of school went smoothly, which sounded so strange, but it did. It hadn't been this calm in a long time, and she couldn't help but wonder if there was drama brewing.

Sophie was accepted to all three schools.

And Nate was accepted to the ones he had additionally applied to, but he hadn't said anything to her. He needed her to chose so they could plan for the fall.

And they were running out of time because they had to accept their offers a week before graduation. Currently, there were eight days until graduation, so they needed an answer by tomorrow.

Additionally, Sophie was crowned class valedictorian for their year. So, she also had to write a speech.

"Nate I don't know what school to chose! They're all great!" Sophie said, frustratedly.

"Have you tried making a pros and cons list like I told you to last week?"

"Yes, but it didn't help."

"Okay, well why don't you research their websites and programs once more? Maybe there's one that sticks out? I know you wanted Stanbridge-"

"Yeah, I did, but I don't know. The other schools are great too, and those campuses are nicer. Ugh, help me." She groaned.

"Baby, you have to make this decision by yourself."

"Have you accepted any of your offers yet?"

Nate hesitated, "No."

"Why?"

"I will tonight. I know which one I'm going to chose."

She widened her eyes, "You do? I thought you were following me?"

He knew he shouldn't have said that. And obviously, he hadn't chosen, but he needed her to, so hopefully this would help speed up the process.

"Sophie, just decide. Please. You're stressing yourself out."

"I know, I know."

Nate sighed, kissing the top of her head before he went to grab Mia out of her baby swing. And he played with her as usual, as she widely smiled at him.

And then it happened. As he was talking to her, he heard it.

She laughed.

Mia fucking laughed.

"Oh my god." His eyes widened, "Soph? Soph!"

She ran into the room, panicked, "What? What happened?"

"She laughed!"

"What?"

"Let me see if I can get her to do it again." He replied as he kissed both of her cheeks again, talking to her and smiling as he pretended to tickle her and she did it again.
