Chapter Forty

Nate looked into the mirror as he began to adjust his tie, unaware that his mom had walked into his room.

"You look handsome, Nate."

Nate turned around and gave his mom a small smile, "Thank you."

"Here, let me fix your tie. It's a bit crooked." Marsha said walking over and adjusting his tie once more.

"Uh, thanks." Nate muttered as Marsha smiled at him.

"Natalie is waiting downstairs for you."

"Right, Natalie." Nate said, sighing.

"Look, I know you wish you were taking Sophie, but maybe this is what's best for you."

"Maybe." Nate muttered.

"I know you love Sophie and I know you two have a lot going on with the baby and everything, but if you just give Natalie a chance, I'm sure you'll end up loving her too."

Doubt it, Nate thought. Natalie was fucking annoying. And she also wasn't Sophie. Also, why the fuck was his mom speaking as if he and Sophie would never get back together, or at least attempt to make it work?

"I'll try." Nate said as he grabbed his phone and wallet before going downstairs with his mom.

Cal was talking to Natalie, which kind of made him sick.

"Hi!" Natalie exclaimed, making Nate cringe on the inside.

"Hey." Nate smiled at her, "You look beautiful."

Not the complete truth, but not a total lie either. Sophie was beyond beautiful. Natalie was just pretty. Pretty fucking annoying.

Natalie blushed, "Thank you."

"We should get going." Nate said as he placed a hand on her lower back, leading her out of the house.

"Bye you two! Have fun!" Marsha yelled as they got into Nate's truck.

Not even 2 minutes after they left, Natalie put her feet up on the dashboard of Nate's truck. Another pet peeve of his.

"You can take your shoes off the dash." Nate said and she glared at him, taking her shoes off quickly before putting her bare feet back on the dashboard.

Nate sighed as Natalie began to talk, "I wonder what all the other girls are going to be wearing, I doubt they'll look as good as me."

Nate rolled his eyes and he zoned Natalie out, thinking about Sophie. What was she wearing? No matter what she always looked beautiful, so it didn't matter. Was she going with a guy? No, he had made sure of that. She was going strictly with the girls, at least that's what he had thought. They pulled into the school's parking lot and Nate turned off the engine and got out, opening the door for Natalie.

"Thanks, babe." she said.

Ew, he thought. He closed the door and locked the truck. She grabbed his hand and the two of them began to walk towards the school.

Here we go.

Meanwhile, Cassie, Lexi, Maddy and Sophie had managed to find Rue and Jules at a table in the back.

"Oh my god! You are honestly the hottest mom ever!" Jules said as she hugged Sophie.

"Thank you. You look amazing!" Sophie said as she turned to Rue, "Aw, Rue, you look so pretty!"

Rue smiled a bit, "Uh, thanks, I guess. Jules dressed me."

"Well, she did a good job." Sophie said as they all sat down and Kat came to join them.
