FLASHBACK #8

SENIOR YEAR

"Cal?" Marsha called out as she left Nate's room.

"I'm in our room." he replied as she walked into their room and shut the door.

"I think we need to discuss this whole situation with Nate and Sophie."

Cal sighed, "I know."

Marsha jumped as she heard the front door slam and a vehicle turn on.

Nate.

"Where do you think he went?"

"Well, probably to Maddy's."

"How do we even talk to him about this? Obviously we didn't do a good job tonight."

"Marsha, he clearly doesn't want the kid."

"Then why did you go on about looking at the bigger picture?"

"I thought it would help."

"A baby, Cal. They're having a baby."

"I know."

"I just feel so excited, but I'm very scared for them. God, they're too young, aren't they? What if Nate's right?"

"Marsha, they'll figure it out."

"I'd love a grandchild." Marsha sighed, "But at the same time, are we too young to be grandparents?"

"Hey, calm down. Everything is fine. We are fine. Sophie and Nate are just fine. They will decide what is best for them."

"Yeah, you're right."

"How's Brenda doing with this? I assume she's furious."

"Surprisingly, she's doing very well."

Cal gave her a surprised look, "Really?"

"I think the thought of a grandchild, gaining another family member, is helping to finally fill the void of her losing James."

Cal looked away, immediately getting tense around the fact that Marsha mentioned James.

"Well, that makes sense."

"Should we tell Aaron?"

"Is that our place?"

"I mean, yeah. We both know Nate's not going to."

Cal nodded and the two of them walked down the hall to Aaron's room and knocked on the door.

"Yeah?" Aaron asked as they walked in.

"We want to talk to you about something." Cal said.

"Oh shit, is it bad? Did something happen?"

"No, it's not bad."

"What is it?"

"Sophie's pregnant." Marsha said as Aaron's eyes widened.
