TRIGGER WARNING: This chapter contains scene(s) associated with violence and/or trauma.
EDIT: Brenda is being a good parent in this chapter. I don't know why y'all are saying you don't like her. How would you feel if your child went through the same thing Sophie did? I'm sure you would react in a way that was similar to Brenda's. Even though she's known the Jacobs' family forever, she's not letting them take advantage of this situation with her daughter.
After receiving some fluids and getting her vitals taken, the nurse led Sophie down to the office to "fill out an incident form."
"Just into this room, Ms. Peters. I will be back in a few minutes with the forms." the nurse said and Sophie nodded, taking a sip of her water.
She sat down and waited, but little did she know, many of her peers were being questioned about her suspicious bruising. They ultimately suspected it was Nate because she was mainly associated with him, especially because of the baby. There were also rumours flying around from people who saw Nate dragging her around the carnival grounds, so it wasn't looking too good.
The first one they pulled was Lexi.
"What is this regarding?" Lexi asked as she sat down across from the principal.
"Sophie Peters. She's a close friend of yours, correct?" Principal Hayes asked and Lexi nodded.
"Yes."
"Do you know anything about her relationship with Nathaniel Jacobs? I am aware she is expecting his child, but have they ever been violent with each other?"
Lexi hesitated, did she tell the truth and sell out Nate or did she protect Nate for Sophie by lying?
"Um, honestly, I've never known them to be violent with each other. I know Nate does have some anger issues, but that's about it. I wouldn't think he would take them out on her either, he loves her too much." she felt herself feel sick as she spoke the last few words.
Yes, he did love her but it was in a way that was sick and twisted and not to mention, completely unhealthy.
"So, you've never seen or heard of him choking her? Possibly over the weekend at the carnival?" Principal Hayes pushed.
"No, I went home with her and Maddy Perez. Everything seemed fine."
If by fine you mean Sophie literally being choked behind a rusty old trailer, then yeah, fines the right word.
"Alright, Ms. Howard. Are you sure there isn't anything else you'd like to add?"
Lexi shook her head, "No."
"Okay, please return to class." Lexi nodded and got up.
She left the principals office and ran to the bathroom. She hovered over the toilet before finally throwing up. She felt so guilty for lying about what really happened and she knew that she should've told the truth, for Sophie and her baby's sake.
The second one they pulled was Maddy.
"Thank you for coming down, Ms. Perez."
Maddy sat down, glancing around the room, "What's this about? Did I do something?"
Principal Hayes chuckled, "No Ms. Perez, you didn't do anything. This is about Sophie Peters, I believe you two are friends?"
Maddy nodded, immediately knowing why she was here, "Yeah, I mean, we had a falling out over Nate awhile back, but her and I are closer than ever again."
