Throughout the rest of the week, Sophie had texted Nate a total of 273 times. And there was no response to any of those 273 messages. She refused to talk to her mom and she refused to have an actual conversation with her friends. They were all trying to support her, but she kept pushing them away. Her bruises were fading, but they were still noticeable and that still didn't stop anyone from staring. She would go out at night, just to drive around in her car and listen to sad music and cry. Typically, she drove past Nate's house a few times, and his truck was always there. She had also noticed his truck near school a few times and near her house and it made her even more upset. All she fucking wanted was a bottle of vodka to drink, but that wasn't an option at the moment.
Then, on Friday night, she was out driving in the pouring rain, having a complete breakdown again when she decided to call Lexi for help.
"Lex? I need to come over now." Sophie sobbed.
"Soph, I'm not at home right now."
"What? Where are you?" Sophie said, pulling over.
"I'm with my mom. We're dealing with stuff."
"Oh, okay, nevermind."
"I'm sorry, Soph. I gotta go."
"Sorry for bothering you." Sophie sobbed, hanging up.
She bawled in her car and kept driving around until she got a really random text from Cassie.
Cassie
Nate told McKay to tell me to tell you to download signal
Sophie's face lit up and she immediately downloaded the app, signing up and within seconds of her making an account, Nate messaged her.
Nate
meet me at the hotel off of exit 27
Sophie smiled and wiped away her tears and pulled back into the road, heading for the hotel. Was this the same creepy hotel that Nate's dad met up with people at? If so, ew. She pulled in and sent him a message.
Sophie
what room?
Nate
204
Sophie grabbed her phone and wallet and got out of the car. She locked her car and ran up the stairs and walked to 204. Her heart began to race as he opened the door. The two of them stared at each other for a few seconds before he pulled her into his arms. He pulled her inside and locked the door and pulled her into a hug, once again.
"God, I missed you so much."
"I missed you too." Sophie whispered, as tears escaped her eyes.
He let her go and cradled her face, "Stay here with me tonight."
"What am I going to tell my mom?"
"Tell Maddy to cover for you. Say you're sleeping at her house." he said, searching her eyes for an answer.
"Okay, I'll text her." Sophie replied as Nate let go of her face.
Sophie

Mom
