Chapter Sixty-One

"Sophie, listen to me, I want to explain-" Nate yelled as he got out of his truck.

He had followed her and Maddy back to Sophie's house because well, Cassie getting out of his truck didn't look good. At all.

"You don't fucking deserve to explain." Maddy said as she pushed his chest.

"Maddy, this isn't your fucking concern, get the fuck out of my way."

"You're fucking one of our best friends behind Sophie's back, how the fuck isn't that my concern?"

"You didn't react like this when Sophie was fucking me behind your back."

"We've discussed this! That was fucking different. This is way different than that-"

"Maddy, what the fuck-"

"Stop! Both of you!" Sophie yelled from the other side of her car, "You're going to cause a fucking scene."

"Look, I just want to talk to you about what just happened-"

"You don't need to fucking say anything. I saw it all, Nate. We saw it all."

"It wasn't what you think it was."

"Oh, so you weren't hooking up with Cassie again? Like, god, Nate-"

"No, she was so fucking terrified of you two finding out that I had fucking told her last week that I'd see her tonight."

"Wait, she's scared of us?" Maddy asked, laughing slightly.

"So you wanted to fucking comfort her? Jesus, Nate."

"No, Sophie. I told her whatever the fuck was between us was nothing and it was all one fucking mistake made between two fucked up people." Nate said as Maddy widened her eyes a bit, "And then I fucking sobbed in front of her."

"You what?" Sophie asked.

"I had a fucking breakdown over the whole thing. Listen, you don't understand how guilty I fucking feel." Nate said as he stood in front of her.

Maddy glanced at Nate before looking at Sophie, shaking her head slightly.

"You deserve to feel guilty, Nate. I want you to regret this for the rest of your fucking life. And I want you to get off my fucking property so I don't have to look at you any longer." Sophie spat as she held in tears, and Maddy's jaw dropped.

Good for her.

"Sophie-" Nate's voice cracked.

"Please, just go."

"You know I'll never stop fighting for the two of you-"

"Go, Nate." Sophie yelled slightly as a tear trickled down her cheek.

Nate nodded as he slowly backed away, glancing once more at Sophie then at Maddy before getting in his truck and leaving. And as he pulled away, he saw his girl sink to the ground.

"I'm glad you stood up to him like that." Maddy said as they sat on the couch.

"Do you think I was too harsh?"

"Not at all." Maddy sighed, "Look, do you want to get back with him?"

"I don't know if I trust him, or Cassie."

"I'm just saying, if you do, then you should be assertive."

"What?"

"You cannot let him just take you back quickly. He would need to show that you're truly worth it. Make him fucking go the extra lengths, push him past his limit, make him fucking crazy over you."
