"You've been avoiding me."

"That's not true. You practically live here so it's kind of hard for me to avoid you."

"You're avoiding me, Sophie. You know there's things we should talk about."

Sophie stayed quiet. It had been two days since all the shit went down at school and she had her first appointment with the therapist early next week. She didn't even know where to fucking begin with Nate, hence her overall silence.

"You can't keep fucking avoiding me. Look, do you want to talk about this or not? Mia's sleeping, so now would be the best time."

And the silence continued, causing Nate to groan and put his head in his hands.

"How do you expect do work on things if you won't talk to me?"

"I don't know." She whispered.

"What? I can't hear you."

"I said I don't know." She spat.

"Yeah, cause that's fucking helpful, Soph." He sighed.

"Fine, Nate. You win. What do you want to talk about? What would you like to say?"

"What do you want to say? I know you've got a ton on your mind."

She scoffed, "Do you?"

"Yeah, I do. I can tell when somethings bothering you, I can tell when you're pissed with me, I can tell when you're pissed in general or if you're sad or anxious or whatever. And right now, you're a mix of everything but mainly pissed-"

"Of course I'm pissed! You had a gun and held it to Cassie and you started a fight at school!"

"Because Elliot was saying shit about you!"

"Well, what was he saying?"

"Let's put it this way, it was bad enough that I fucking punched him so-"

She groaned, "You're not making this any easier, Nate."

"He was saying that I wouldn't fucking change and that when you saw that, he would be there for you to pick up the pieces and make you happy. And he implied that you two would, would-" He clenched his fists, letting out a deep breath, "You know what I'm talking about."

That they'd get together?

Never.

She furrowed her brow, "He wouldn't say that-"

"But he would to prove a point, right?"

"So, what, Nate? He wanted to prove a point then? To what? Get me?"

"Exactly."

"Or he was just saying that to bother you-"

"But doesn't it fucking bother you?"

"Of course it does." Sophie sighed, "But the bottom line right now is that you didn't have to give into the temptation of punching him."

"I was trying to protect you."

"Your view of protecting me is way different than mine. Yours always involved violence somehow."

"Okay, come on. That's not fucking true."

"Oh, it's not? Let me name a few times for you-"

"Sophie, we're not doing this-"

"Oh, but we are because I just said that you think violence is the answer and you need to get it through your head that this is the way you think."
